A coal miner was hurt in an underground accident in Wise County Wednesday morning. According to the Department of Mines, Minerals, and Energy, the accident happened at the D-7 Osaka Mine in Appalachia when a miner operating a continuous miner struck an underground wall. The impact caused a rock measuring 30-inches in diamter to fall between the roof and wall of the mine, grazing the miner’s neck and legs. The injuries are not considered life-threatening. The DMME is investigating.
