Girls 14th Region champion, the Knott County Central Lady Patriots ended their season with a loss Thursday in the opening round of the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 State Tournament at Northern KY University. Knott Central lost to Louisville Mercy 85-56. All 3 mountain teams are now out of the tournament. Today’s Girls Sweet 16 quarterfinals will be Owensboro Catholic taking on Mercer County at 12noon, George Rogers Clark against E-Town at 1:30, then Ryle will face Mercy tonight at 6:30 and Boyd County against Dupont Manual around 8 this evening. The semi-finals will be Saturday night with the championship game on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.
Estill County, Pikeville and Corbin are the boys mountain region champions and all will now advance to next week’s boys Sweet 16 state tournament at Rupp Arena.
Estill County will face Corbin in a 14th vs 13th region opening round game in the first game of the boys Sweet 16 next Wednesday March 14th at 12noon. 15th Region champ Pikeville will face John Hardin at 8pm next Wednesday in the state tournament.
