KHSAA STATE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

The 2014 Rawlings/KHSAA Baseball State Tournament begins today at Whitaker Bank Ball Park in Lexington.

2 mountain teams are in action today.

The 14th Region Champion Hazard Bulldogs will play McCracken County out of Region 1 in the opening game of the tournament this morning at 11:00am.

In today's 4th and final game it will be 13th Region champ South Laurel playing Scott High School at 8:30pm.

The other 2 games today are South Warren and Daviess County at 1:30pm and Simon Kenton takes on Southwestern at 6:00pm.

On Tuesday, 15th Region champion Johnson Central will face Tates Creek at 6:00pm.

The other 3 opening round games Tuesday will be North Bullitt vs. ETown at 11:00am, Boyd County against Conner at 1:30pm and St. X battles Union County at 8:30pm.

The quarter finals are Wednesday and Thursday, semifinals on Friday and championship game Saturday.

KHSAA STATE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT


The Worth KHSAA Softball State Tournament begins this Thursday at Fischer Park in Owensboro.  

13th Region Champion South Laurel will play GRC out of Winchester, 14th Region Champ Estill County will take on Highlands and 15th Region winner Johnson Central plays Anderson County in the opening round of the double elimination tournament.

14TH REGION SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

For the 8th time in the last 10 years and for the 3rd year in a row,  the Estill County Lady Engineers are the 14th Region Softball Tournament champions.  

Last night at Letcher County Central, Estill County beat Powell County 11-3 in the championship game.  

Estill County is 26-13 and will face Highlands in the first round of the Worth/KHSAA Softball State Tournament at Fischer Park in Owensboro next Thursday June 5.

REDS BASEBALL

The Reds opened up the 4 game weekend series against the D-Backs in Arizona with a 4-0 shutout loss.  The Reds have lost 5 of their last 6 games and are 23-29 on the season, 8 games behind Milwaukee and in 4th place in the NL Central.

The Reds and D-Backs have 3 more games left this weekend in Arizona.  They play tonight at 9:40pm, 10:10pm on Saturday and 4:10pm on Sunday before having Monday off.

14TH REGION BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

It will be the Hazard Bulldogs and the Estill County Engineers in the 14th Region Baseball Tournament championship game.

In last night's semi-finals at Buckhorn the Letcher County Central Cougars season came to end with a 9-7 loss to the Hazard Bulldogs.  It was a back and forth game through 5 innings until Hazard picked up 5 runs in the 6th inning to go up 9-3.  The Cougars closed the gap in the 7th by scoring 4 runs but it wasn't enough.  LCC finishes up at 24-14 and says goodbye to 8 seniors.  

In the 2nd semi-final last night it was Estill County edging Knott County Central 3-2.

Tonight's 14th Region championship game between Hazard and Estill County begins at 7:00pm at Buckhorn.  

14TH REGION SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

The 14th Region Softball Tournament is being played at Letcher County Central and the semifinals are set for this evening.

Game one tonight at 6:00pm will be Estill County taking on Leslie County and game two, around 8:00pm, will be the  Jenkins Lady Cavaliers against Powell County.

The championship game is set for Thursday at 7:00pm also at LCC.

3 LCC STUDENT-ATHLETES TO SIGN WITH UNION COLLEGE

3 Letcher County Central student-athletes will sign scholarship papers with Union College today in the LCC Auditorium.

Cheerleader, Loretta Adams, will be signing at 11:00am
Baseball Player, Max Hall will be signing at 11:15am
and Football Player, Houston Watts will be signing at 11:30am.

Congratulations to all 3!

REDS BASEBALL

The Reds have lost 4 in a row after a 6-3 to the LA Dodgers on the West Coast Tuesday night.  They are now in 4th place in the NL Central 7.5 games behind Milwaukee.

The Reds and Dodgers will play the final game of the 3 game series tonight in LA as the Reds try to avaoid the sweep.  Start time is 10:10pm.  Pre-game begins at 9:40 on AM 920 WTCW.

14TH REGION BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

The Hazard Bulldogs are the 2014 14th Region Baseball Champions.  The 26-13 Bulldogs beat Estill County 11-1 in 5 innings at Buckhorn last night.  

Hazard will play McCracken County from Region 1 in far Western Kentucky in the 2014 Rawlings KHSAA State Baseball Tournament at Whitaker Bank Ball Park this Monday June 2nd at 11:00am.  

14TH REGION SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

The 14th Region Softball Tournament championship game is now set and the fantastic season for the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers has come to an end.  Jenkins lost in a hard fought game to Powell County 3-2 in last night's semi-final game 2 at LCC.   With the loss Jenkins ends a 12 game winning streak and finishes 28-5 for the year.  Congratulations to the Lady Cavs and Coach April Damron Charles on a job well done.

In the first semi-final game Estill County powered past Leslie County 7-2.

Tonight Estill County will play Powell County at 7:00pm at Letcher County Central in the 14th Region Softball Tournament Championshp game.

The winner plays next Thursday June 5th in the State Tournament in Owensboro.

REDS BASEBALL

The Reds broke a 4 game losing streak and avoided the sweep by beating the Dodgers in LA last night 3-2.  

The Reds continue on the 2 city 7 game road swing by going to Arizona to play the D-Backs in 4 games this weekend.  Tonight's game begins at 9:40.  Pre-game will be at 9:10pm on AM 920 WTCW.

The Reds and D-Backs will play Friday at 9:40pm, 10:10pm on Saturday and 4:10pm on Sunday before having Monday off.

14TH REGION BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

The 14th Region Baseball and Softball Tournaments got underway on Monday, Memorial Day.

The 14th Region Baseball Tournament was played at 2 sites yesterday.

The 2 games at Buckhorn had Letcher County Central blast Jackson City 18-1 in 5 inningss and Hazard squeezing by Powell County 3-2.

In the two games at Perry County Central Estill County knocked off Perry County Central 12-1 and Knott County Central thumped Wolfe County 14-2 in 5 innings.

The semi-finals will be held tonight at Buckhorn.  

Game 1 will be Letcher County Central taking on Hazard at 5:30pm.  We'll broadcast the LCC-Hazard game tonight on the Bulldog with pre-game about 5:15pm.

Game 2 tonight around 8:00pm will be Estill County and Knott County Central.

The championship game is set for Wednesday at 7:00pm also at Buckhorn.

14TH REGION SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

The 14th Region Softball Tournament is being played at Letcher County Central where all 4 opening round games were played yesterday.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers beat Hazard 12-0 in 5 innings in the opening game.   The 53rd District Champion Lady Cavaliers have now won 12 in a row.

Game two had Wolfe County beating Powell County 6-2.

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars season came to an end in game 3 as they lost to Estill County 9-0.  The Lady Cougars finish at 18-16 overall.
Leslie County shutout Jackson City in the last game of the day 10-0.

The softball semifinals will be Wednesday at LCC with game 1 Estill County vs. Leslie County and game 2 Jenkins vs. Powell County.

The championship game is set for Thursday at 7:00pm also at LCC.

3 LCC STUDENT-ATHLETES TO SIGN WITH UNION COLLEGE

Congratulations to 3 Letcher County Central student-athletes who will all 3 sign scholarship papers this Wednesday in the LCC Auditorium..

LETCHER CENTRAL STATE TRACK MEET RESULTS

The KHSAA Class 2A State Track Meet was held on Friday at UK in Lexington and Letcher County Central's Willie Smith - received 4th Place in the Shot Put.  The Boys 4 X 800 Relay Team  got 9th place and that includes Chippy Frazier,Dylan Burton, Judson Collins and Chase Cates.   The Girls 4 X 200 Relay Team picked up 11th place and that includes Brittany Day, Meg Cornett, Kelli Quillen and  Tami Hall. 

REDS BASEBALL

The Reds have lost 3 in a row including  4-3 to the LA Dodgers on Monday night.  They are now in 4th place in the NL Central 6.5 games back of Milwaukee.

The Reds and Dodgers will play game 2 of 3 in LA tonight with a start time of 10:10pm.  Pre-game begins at 9:40 on AM 920 WTCW.
