The Mercer County Lady TItans out of Harrodsburg are the 2017 KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 basketball state champions.  It is the first title for Mercer County who beat Franklin County 85-71 in the championship game.

The Boys Sweet 16 State Tournament begins later this week at Rupp Arena in Lexington. 14th Region champion Perry Central will take on 15th Region champion the Pikeville Panthers in an all mountain first round game at the state tournament this Wednesday March 15th at 1:30pm.  13th region champ the Harlan County Black Bears will take on Scott High School on Wednesday March 15th at 6:30pm.  You can hear all games of the Boys Sweet 16 from opening round to championship game on CBS Sports Radio AM 920 WTCW. 

In high school baseball from this weekend....The Letcher County Central Cougars lost their season opener at home, falling to North Laurel 8-4.   The Cougars will take on Perry County Central at home today at 6pm and then play at Harlan County Thursday at 6. 

The Jenkins Cavalier baseball team is now 1-1 after losing a district game Friday at Knott County Central.  The Cavaliers will play at Betsy Layne today at 6 followed by their home opener against Buckhorn this Friday at 6pm.

Letcher County Central Lady Cougar softball  begins this Saturday March 18th at Belfry. The Lady Cougars will play Henry Clay at 11am then Belfry at 1.   Jenkins Lady Cavalier softball will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, March 14th with a doubleheader against JI Burton VA at home.
 
Behind a career high of 14 points  for senior Dominique Hawkins, The UK Wildcats claimed their 30th Southeastern Conference Tournament championship and third straight on Sunday with an 82-65 win over Arkansas in Nashville.  The victory was UK’s 11th straight and puts them at 29-5 overall.  DeAaron Fox was named the tournament MVP.  The Cats picked up the #2 seed in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament and will face #15 seed Northern KY in Indianapolis this Friday night at 9:30pm.  Pre-game will start around 8pm here on the Bulldog.

All 3 mountain teams have been eliminated in the first round of the KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 basketball state tournament.  13th Region champ Harlan lost to George Rogers Clark on Wednesday and yesterday 14th Region champion, Knott County Central lost to Henderson County 63-53 and 15th Region champion Paintsville lost to Simon Kenton 70-45.  Also yesterday at the Girls Sweet 16 in Newport Franklin County got by Russell County 72-67 and Holmes beat Grayson County 45-32. 

Today's quarterfinals of the girls Sweet 16 will be Butler taking on Murray at 12 noon, George Rogers Clark against Mercer County at 1:30.  Franklin County plays Simon Kenton at 6:30 and Holmes takes on Hendreson County at 8.  You can hear the entire Girls Sweet 16 State Tournament on CBS Sports Radio AM 920 WTCW!

Jenkins begins the year with a 4-3 win on the road at Phelps.  Jenkins is scheduled to play Knott County Central in a district game tonight at 6 and then play at Betsy Layne on Monday. 

The Letcher County Central baseball team opens their 2017 season tonight at home against Sheldon Clark with first pitch at 7pm.  They will also play North Laurel at home tomorrow, Saturday, at 2pm.

Letcher County Central Lady Cougar softball  begins March 18th at Belfry.  Jenkins Lady Cavalier softball will begin on March 14th with a doubleheader against JI Burton VA at home. 

Yesterday in round 2 of the Men's SEC basketball Tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Georgia edged Tennessee 59-57, Alabama beat Mississippi State 75-55, Vanderbilt over Texas A & M 66 to 41 and Ole Miss knocked off Missouri 84-74.

The UK Wildcats will begin their SEC Tournament play today in the quarterfinals as they take on Georgia at 1:00pm.  We'll bring you the game live here on the Bulldog with pre-game this morning at 11:30.   If the cats win today they'll play either Alabama or South Carolina, who play today at 3:30.  Tonight Floriday plays Mississippi State at 7 and Arkansas faces Ole Miss at 9:30.  The semifinals are Saturday and the championship game Sunday also at 1pm.

The Letcher County Central Cougar boys basketball season ended last night with a loss to Perry County Central 57-50 in the 14th Region Semifinals at Breathitt County.  The Cougars finish at 24-9 on the season, 53rd District Champions along with the KABC 14th Region Coach of the Year and 14th Region Player of the Year.   Perry Central moves on to face Knott County Central for the 14th Region TItle and a trip to Rupp tonight at 7pm at Breathitt County HS in Jackson.  Knott Central beat Estill County in the 2nd semi-final game last night 45-30.  

The boys 13th Region champion is the Harlan County Black Bears as they got by Corbin 67-65 in the championship game last night at the Arena in Corbin.

The boys 15th Region champion is the Pikeville Panthers, who came from 18 down to beat Johnson Central 95-84 last night at the Expo Center in Pikeville.  

The boys sweet 16 state tournament gets underway nexty Wednesday March 15th at Rupp Arena in Lexington.


Harlan, Knott County Central and Paintsville will represent the mountains in the girls Sweet 16 State Tournament that gets underway this Wednesday at BB & T Arena at Newport KY Northern KY University.  

Harlan will play George Rogers Clark Wednesday at 8pm, Paintsville will take on Simon Kenton at 6:30 on Thursday and Knott County Central will face Henderson County at 12 noon Thursday in the state tournament.  

High School baseball and softball season is right around the corner.

The Jenkins Cavaliers and coach Robbie Delph will open the season this Thursday March 9th at Phelps at 6pm and then play at Knott County Central Friday at 6.

No. 9 Kentucky will be the #1 seed in the SEC Tournament that runs this Wednesday through Sunday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.  The Cats get a by to the quarterfinals where they'll play this Friday March 10th at 1pm against the winner of the Georgia and Tennessee game.  We'll have coverage of the Cats in the SEC Tournament including Friday's game here on the Bulldog.  Pre-game will start at 11:30am.  Tipoff at 1.

In what was a classic game the Perry County Central Commodores beat the Knott County Central Patriots 57-50 in double overtime last night in the boys 14th Region Tournament championship game at Breathitt County in Jackson.  It's the Commodores first region title since 2011.  Perry County Central will be playing in next weeks boys Sweet 16 State Tournament at Rupp Arena.  Perry Central will take on 15th Region champion the Pikeville Panthers in an all mountain first round game at the state tournament on Wednesday March 15th at 1:30pm.  13th region champ the Harlan County Black Bears will take on Scott High School on Wednesday March 15th at 6:30pm.

Harlan, Knott County Central and Paintsville will represent the mountains in the girls Sweet 16 State Tournament that gets underway today at BB & T Arena at Newport KY Northern KY University.  

Harlan will play George Rogers Clark out of Winchester tonight at 8pm, Paintsville will take on Simon Kenton at 6:30pm tomorrow and Knott County Central will face Henderson County at 12 noon tomorrow.

Today's games will be Sacred Heart against Butler at 12 noon, Murray taking on Nelson County at 1:30, Boyd County against Mercer County at 6:30 this evening and Harlan against GRC tonight at 8.  4 more opening round games will be played tomorrow, the quarterfinals on Friday, semis on Saturday and the championship game Sunday in the Girls Sweet 16.

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars basketball season came to an end Friday night when they lost to Leslie County 57-48 Final in the 14th Region Tournament semifinals at Hazard. The Lady Cougars season ends at 19-15. Also Friday night in the girls 14th Region semi-finals Knott County Central beat Perry County Central 77-72.   Then Saturday night Knott County Central beat Leslie County 49-44 to claim the girls 2017 14th Region championship.  Congratulations to coach Jeff Honeycutt and the Lady Patriots.   

In the girls 13th region championship game Harlan Independent beat Harlan County 59-52 at the Arena in Corbin Saturday night.

In the girls 15th region championship game Paintsville held off Johnson Central 39-36 at the Eastern KY Expo Center Saturday afternoon.

So Harlan Ind., Knott County Central and Paintsville will represent the mountains in the girls Sweet 16 State Tournament that gets underway this Wednesday at BB & T Arena at Newport KY Northern KY University.  

Harlan will play George Rogers Clark Wednesday at 8pm, Paintsville will take on Simon Kenton at 6:30 on Thursday and Knott County Central will face Henderson County at 12 noon Thursday in the state tournament.  

Tonight it's the boys 14th Region Tournament semi-finals at Breathitt County in Jackson.  
In game one this evening Letcher County Central will take on Perry County Central at 6pm and Estill County will play Knott County Central around 8.  We'll bring you the LCC-Perry Central boys semi-final game tonight here on the Bulldog with pre-game starting at 5:30pm.

Tonight's 2 winners will meet in the championship game tomorrow at 7.

The boys 13th region tournament championship game will be tonight at 7 when Corbin takes on Harlan County at the Arena in Corbin.  

The boys 15th region tournament championship game will also be tonight at the Eastern KY Expo Center in Pikeville when Johnson Central takes on Pikeville at 7:30.  

The boys sweet 16 will be at Rupp Arena starting on Wednesday March 15th.
