LETCHER COUNTY CENTRAL & JENKINS BOYS/GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Letcher County Central Cougar Boys are now 16-12 after losing to the Hazard Bulldogs in Overtime at Hazard in a 14th Region matchup on Friday night.  The final was 49-43.  Today begins the final week of regular season play and the Cougars have 2 more games on the slate.  Tuesday night at home against  Buckhorn and Thursday night also at home against Pike County Central.  We'll have both games here on 103.9 The Bulldog with varsity tip off set for 7:30pm and the Cougar Countdown Pregame Show at 7:00pm.  

Both Jenkins Cavalier Boys games were postponed this weekend due to the snow.  The 6-17 Cavaliers have 4 regular season games left and will next play Tuesday night at Hazard.  Varsity tipoff will be at 7:30pm.

In other mountain boys basketball action over the weekend Breathitt County beat Knott County Central at Jackson 64-54.  Breathitt is now 19-4 and Knott Central has lost 2 in a row to fallt o 22-4.

Tuesday night Breathitt County will play at Perry Central.

The 21-4 Letcher County Central Lady Cougars have won 5 in a row and went a perfect 6-0 in district play as they beat Jenkins on the road Friday night 68-45.   The Lady Cougars games at Owsley County on Saturday was cancelled due to the snow and will not be made up.  The Lady Cougars only have one game this week to wrap up regular season play.  That game is on the road tonight at Shelby Valley.  JV at 6:00pm.  Varsity at 7:30pm.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers have 4 games left in the regular season and they next play LCC Friday night at home.  The Lady Cavaliers will play South Floyd at home on Saturday with tipoff at 4:00pm.

The 8-16 Jenkins Lady Cavaliers have 2 regular season games left as they play Thursday at home against Pike County Central and Friday on the road at Leslie County.

The 53rd District Boys AND Girls Tournament begins one week from today on Monday Feb 20th and will be held at Jenkins High School.


UK WILDCATS BASKETBALL

In a wild game atmosphere on Saturday the #1 UK Wildcats overcame a hostile crowd and losing a 13 point halftime lead to hold on to pick up the win over the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville Saturday night by a final of 69-63.  Anthony Davis had 15 points 8 rebounds and 7 blocks to lead the Cats.  Terrence Jones also had 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks.  Kentucky remains unbeaten, at 11-0, in the SEC and is 25-1 overall.  The Cats are off all week with their next game this Saturday at home against Ole Miss.  Tipoff at 4:00pm with Countdown to Tipoff at 2:30pm. 

Because the UK Women are in action tonight at Tennessee, The Coach Cal Radio Show, Sports Nightly and UK Women's Coach Matthew Mitchell show will air be heard on Wednesday evening this week starting at 6pm.
