Johny Cueto, making a bid for the last roster spot for the National League in next week's All Star Game in CIncinnati, threw a 2 hit, 11 strikeout, complete game shutout against the Nationals in Washington last night.  With the 5-0 win the Reds, 15 games back of St. Louis in th eNL Central,  have won the first 2 games of the road trip and will go for the sweep over the Nationals tonight.  Game 3 of the Nationals series will be tonight at 7:05pm.  Pre-game begins at 6:35 on AM 920 WTCW.  The Reds have 5 more games before the All Star break Monday July 13 through Thursday July 16.  That's tonight's final game at Washington and 4 at the Florida Marlins Thursday-Sunday.  The All Star game will be a week from today, Tuesday July 14th at 7:30pm at Great American Ball Park.

Letcher County Central Cougar required varsity football practice will begin on Monday July 13th at 9:00am.  This includes all incoming freshmen.  This message from Coach Mike Holcomb.

Sports physicals will be given at Letcher County Central High School on Thursday July 9th from 9:00am-2:00pm and also Friday July 10th from 9:00am-12 noon.  All Letcher County Central high school students who plan to participate in a sport must have a current physical on file prior to the first practice to be eligible to play.  Call LCC at 633-2339 if you have any questions.

The 2015 Whitesburg Tennis Classic will be held Friday, Saturday & Sunday July 10th, 11th & 12th at the Whitesburg City Courts.  Play begins at 5:00pm on Friday July 10th and the following events are scheduled:  Men's A, B & C singles and doubles, Women's A, B & C singles and doubles, Men's and Women's 40,50, 50 & over singles and doubles, mixed A & B doubles and Junior's Boy's & Girl's 14, 16, 18 & under singles and doubles.  The deadline to enter is Wednesday July 8th at 6:00pm.  For more info and to get signed up call Rick aleigh at 606-589-5498 or 606-733-0010 after 6:00pm.  This event is part of the newly formed Appalachian Tennis Series. The Reds won 3-2 over the Nationals in Washington last night to improve their record to 37-44 and move to 16.5 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central.  Game 2 of the Nationals series will be tonight at 7:05pm.  Pre-game begins at 6:35 on AM 920 WTCW.  The Reds have 6 more games before the All Star break Monday July 13 through Thursday July 16.  That's 2 more at Washington and 4 at the Florida Marlins Thursday-Sunday.  The All Star game will be a week from today, Tuesday July 14th at 7:30pm at Great American Ball Park.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL BOYS & GIRLS

High School Basketball After Christmas tournaments get into full swing across the state and nation this weekend.


The 7-2 Letcher County Central Cougar boys will play 3 games in the KSA Disney ESPN Tournament in Orlando, Florida. starting tomorrow Saturday and going through Tuesday.

The 7-3 Letcher County Central Lady Cougars are playing this weekend in the FNB Holiday Bash at South Warren High School in Bowling Green.  The LCC girls will take on Glasgow at 2:00pm tomorrow Saturday and Franklin Simpson at 1:00pm this Sunday.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers are back in action this coming weekend as they play 3 games in the Sunshine Classic Saturday, Sunday and Monday in Daytona Beach Florida.  They open up against Science Hill TN tomorrow. 

The Jenkins Cavalier boys are 3-7 after losing Tuesday to Central HS of Wise County 58-52.   The Cavaliers won't play again until January 9th when they play at Letcher County Central. 


UK vs. LOUISVILLE IN BATTLE OF THE BLUEGRASS

#1 Kentucky Wildcats will play the Louisville Cardinals tomorrow at the KFC Yum Center in the Battle of the Bluegrass.  Tipoff Saturday for the Cats and Cards will be 2:00pm.  Pre-game begins at 12:30 here on the Bulldog.

WYMT MOUNTAIN CLASSIC

Last night in boys high school basketball from the WYMT Mountain Classic at Perry County Central:

Game one had Buckhorn getting by Lawrence County 64-61 and in game two Perry Central beat Knox Central 72-41.

Tonight's consolation games will be Harlan County against Hazard at 6:45 and Knox Central playing Lawrence County around 8:30pm.

The Semi-finals will be held on Friday with Knott Central vs. Clay County and Perry Central taking on Buckhorn.

The girls championship game between Leslie County and Bell County is Saturday along with the boys 3rd place and championship games.  Again all games played at the John C. Combs Arena at Perry Central in the 2015 WYMT Mountain Classic.

LCC & JENKINS HIGH SCHOOL BOYS/GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Letcher County Central Cougar boys are back in action Friday night at home as they take on Jenkins in a district game.  JV begins at 6 with varsity at 7:30.

The LCC Lady Cougars will next play at East Ridge this Saturday at 4:30pm for varsity. JV begins at 3.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers next play Friday night at home against Shelby Valley. JV at 6. Varisty at 7:30.

UK BASKETBALL

The #1 and 14-0 UK Wildcats will play at Texas A & M this Saturday. 1:00pm is tipoff with pre-game at 11:30 here on 103.9 The Bulldog.

BOYS & GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

Congratulations to the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars basketball team.  They won all 3 games in the Whitesburg ARH Christmas Classic and was named overall champion of the tournament held at LCC.  

They beat Breathitt County 73-39, Harlan County 55-43 on Friday and Jenkins 81-39 on Saturday.  The Lady Cougars are now 7-3 and winners of 4 in a row.

The LCC girls will now play in the FNB Holiday Bash the weekend after Christmas at South Warren High School in Bowling Green.  They will play play Glasgow on December 27 and Franklin Simpson on December 28.

Breathitt County went 2-1 in the tournament, Harlan County was 1-2 and Jenkins went 0-3.  

With those 3 losses, the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers falls to 3-6.

The Lady Cavaliers will play 3 games in the Sunshine Classic December 27, 28 and 29 in Daytona Beach Florida.  

The Letcher County Central Cougar boys won 2 games and lost 1 in the Hyden Bank Christmas Tournament at Leslie County this weekend.   The Cougar boys lost to Meade County 43-40 on Friday.  They beat Leslie County 57-46 on Saturday and Red Bird 71-30 also on Saturday.  

The Cougars are now 7-2 overall will now play 3 games December 27 through 30 in the KSA Disney ESPN Tournament in Orlando, Florida.

The Jenkins Cavalier boys are now 3-6 overall after losing Friday to Phelps 56-48 in Overtime.  Jenkins will now play Central HS of Wise County VA this Tuesday at Jenkins.  Game time is 6 for JV and 7:30 for varsity.

UK BASKETBALL

The #1 Kentucky Wildcats blasted UCLA in the Champions Classic in Chicago Saturday 83-44 in their most impressive win of the year. They led 41-7 at halftime.  The Cats are now 12-0 and will play the Louisville Cardinals this Saturday at the KFC Yum Center in the Battle of the Bluegrass.  Tipoff Saturday for the Cats and Cards will be 2:00pm.  Pre-game begins at 12:30 here on the Bulldog.  Also tonight at 6:00pm, it's Tom Leach and the Coach Cal Show here on the Bulldog.
