BASEBALL STATE TOURNAMENT FINAL FOUR

The baseball State Tournament semi-finals are now set and only one mountain team is left, that being 13th Region champion, the South Laurel Cardinals.

On Thursday afternoon, 14th Region Champs, the Hazard Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker 1-0 in 10 innings to Simon Kenton in the completion of the suspended game from the night before.

In the 2nd game of the afternoon yesterday South Laurel advances to the final four with a 4 to 1 win over South Warren.

Last night, North Bullitt held off Conner 4-3 and St. X ended the season for 15th Region Champion Johnson Central 6-3.

The semi-finals tonight at Whitaker Bank Ball Park in Lexington will have South Laurel playing Simon Kenton at 6:00pm and North Bullitt will take on St. X around 8:30pm.

The Championship game will be Saturday night at 7.


SOFTBALL STATE TOURNAMENT BEGINS

The Girls double elimination Softball State Tournament began yesterday in Owensboro at Fisher Park.  

15th Region winner Johnson Central lost to Anderson County 9-1, Highlands beat 14th Region champ Estill County 4-1 and South Laurel from the 13th Region won over George Rogers Clark 5-2.

In the winner's bracket, South Laurel will take on Scott County at 9:00am this morning.  

In the last chance or loser's bracket today, Johnson Central will go against Ashland Blazer at 11am this morning and Estill County will face Green County also at 11am.

The Girls Softball State Tournament wraps up on Saturday.
 

REDS LOSE 2 IN A ROW AND HAVE THE PHILLIES THIS WEEKEND

he Reds lost the rubber match yesterday to the Giants in their 3 game series.  The final was 6-1.   With back to back losses the Reds are now 27-31, 7.5 games behind Milwaukee in 4th place in the NL Central.  The Reds continue their 10 game home stand, the longest of the season, as they welcome in the Philadelphia Phillies for 3 this weekend.  The Reds and Phillies play tonight at 7:10, Saturday at 4:10 and Sunday at 1:10.  The Reds will play 4 against the Dodgers at home starting Monday.  Catch all Reds games on AM 920 WTCW.

ALL 3 MOUNTAIN TEAMS STILL PLAYING IN THE BASEBALL STATE TOURNAMENT

All 3 mountain teams are still alive in the Rawlings/KHSAA Baseball State Tournament.   Last night at Whitaker Bank Ball Park in Lexington, 15th Region Champion, the Johnson Central Golden Eagles upset the #1 team in the state, Tates Creek, 8-4 to move to the quarterfinal round.   Other winners on Tuesday in opening round games...North Bullitt got by E-town 6-5, Conner blew out Boyd County 12-0 and it was St. X over Union County 2-1.

The Quarterfinals will be today and Thursday.   This evening at 6:00pm, 14th Region Champion, the Hazard Bulldogs, will face Simon Kenton and then 13th Region Champion, the South Laurel Cardinals will battle South Warren around 8:30.

Tomorrow evening at 6:00pm Connor plays North Bullitt and Johnson Central will tangle with St. X.

The semi-finals will be Friday evening and the Championship game will be Saturay at 7 for the baseball State Tournament.

SOFTBALL STATE TOURNAMENT BEGINS THURSDAY IN OWENSBORO

Estill County, South Laurel and Johnson Central will be representing the mountains starting Thursday in the Worth/KHSAA Softball State Tournament at Fischer Park in Owensboro.

The tournament is double elimination with 15th Region Champion Johnson Central facing Anderson County Thursday at 5:00pm, 14th Region Champion Estill County will take on Highlands at 7:00pm Thursday and 13th Region Champion South Laurel will meet George Rogers Clark also at 7:00pm on Thursday.   The softball State Tournament goes through Saturday in Owensboro.

REDS MAKING A MOVE IN THE NL CENTRAL

The Reds have won 4 in a row and 5 of 6 and sit 6.5 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central.   They are tied with Pittsburgh for 3rd place.  Game 2 of 3 against the Giants at home will be tonight at 7:10pm,  Pre-game at 6:40.   The Reds and Giants will wrap up the series with a day game on Thursday at 12:35pm.

WEATHER DELAYS KHSAA BASEBALL STATE TOURNAMENT

Weather impacted the 2 quarterfinal games of the Rawlings KHSAA Baseball State Tournament last night in Lexington.

Game one between Hazard and Simon Kenton was suspended in the bottom of the 7th due to lightning.  The game was scoreless at 0-0 at the time and play will resume in the bottom in the 7th at 12 noon today.   Last night's 2nd game between South Warren and 13th Region Champ South Laurel will be played at 1:30pm this afternoon.

The other 2 quarterfinal games will be played as scheduled tonight at 6:00pm when North Bullitt plays Conner and at 8:30pm 15th Region Champ Johnson Central faces St. X.  

The Semi-finals will be played Friday night and the Championship Game Saturday at 7pm.  All games are at Whitaker Bank Ball Park in Lexington.


SOFTBALL STATE TOURNAMENT BEGINS TODAY IN OWENSBORO

The double elimination Worth/KHSAA Softball State Tournament begins today at Jack Fischer Park in Owensboro.

Estill County, South Laurel and Johnson Central are the 3 mountain teams.

15th Region Champion Johnson Central will take on Anderson County today at 5:00pm, 14th Region Champion Estill County will play on Highlands at 7:00pm this evening and 13th Region Champion South Laurel will meet George Rogers Clark also at 7:00pm tonight.   

The softball State Tournament goes through Saturday in Owensboro.


REDS 4 GAME WIN STREAK ENDS

The San Francisco Giants ended the Reds 4 game win streak last night with a 3-2 win.  The Reds and Giants will wrap up the 3 games series with a day game today at 12:35pm.  The series is tied at 1 game each.  The Reds begin a 3 game weekend series against the Phillies Friday night at 7:10pm.  They play Saturday at 4:10pm and Sunday at 1:10pm.  Catch all Reds action on AM 920 WTCW.

LETCHER COUNTY CENTRAL BASEBALL/SOFTBALL HONORS

Letcher County Central Cougar Baseball players Dakota Adams, Jarrett Fields, Max Hall and Mason Salyers were named to the All 53rd District Team for 2014. 

LCC Lady Cougar Softball players Carli Combs, Makaley Johnson, Cheyanne Stidham and Hannah Wampler were named to the All 53rd District Team for 2014. 

Cougar Baseball Players Zane Blair and Dakota Yonts were also named to the 2014 14th Region All Tournament Team and Lady Cougar Softball Player Carli Combs was named to the 2014 14th Region All Tournament Team.

KHSAA BOYS BASEBALL STATE TOURNAMENT

The 2014 Rawlings/KHSAA Baseball State Tournament got underway Monday at Whitaker Bank Ball Park in Lexington with the first four opening round games being played and 2 mountain teams winning.

The 14th Region Champion, the Hazard Bulldogs advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-1 win over McCracken County in the opening game of the tournament.

Also 13th Region Champion, South Laurel beat Scott High School 4-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Also Monday, Simon Kenton beat Southwestern 2-1 and South Warren shutout Daviess County 4-0.

On Wednesday in the quarterfinal matchups Hazard will play Simon Kenton at 6:00pm and South Laurel will play South Warren.

Today, the last 4 opening round games will be played with  15th Region champion Johnson Central taking on Tates Creek this evening at 6:00pm.

The other 3 opening round games today are North Bullitt vs. ETown at 11:00am, Boyd County against Conner at 1:30pm and St. X battles Union County at 8:30pm.

Today's winners will play Thursday, the semifinals will be held on Friday and championship game Saturday in the Baseball State Tournament.


KHSAA GIRLS STATE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

The Worth KHSAA Softball State Tournament begins this Thursday at Fischer Park in Owensboro.  

13th Region Champion South Laurel will play George Rogers Clark from Winchester, 14th Region Champ Estill County takes on Highlands and 15th Region winner Johnson Central plays Anderson County in the opening round of the double elimination tournament.


REDS BASEBALL BEGINS 10 GAME HOME STAND

The Reds are 7.5 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central in 4th place.  They were off Monday before beginning a 10 game 3 team home stand at Great American Ball Park against the Giants, Phillies and Dodgers.  The Reds will play the first of 3 against the San Francisco Giants tonight.  Game time is 7:10.  Pre-game begins at 6:40pm on AM 920 WTCW.
