LADY COUGARS WIN 14TH REGION VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars have reclaimed the top spot in 14th Region Volleyball as they beat Hazard last night 3-0 in the tournament championship game.  Lady Cougar Senior Sara Baker was named tournament MVP.  The Lady Cougars have won the 14th Region 9 of the 10 years of their existence.  Hazard won it all last year in 2013.  The Lady Cougars will now advance to the state volleyball tournament to play McCracken County from Region 1 on Friday November 7th at Valley High School in Louisville.  Congratulations to Coach Betty Von Caudill, her staff and the LCC Lady Cougars.  

FINAL WEEK OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL REGULAR SEASON

High School Football had a handful of early games played last night across the region.  

Bell County beat Harlan County 35-14
Middlesboro over Lynn Camp 46-7
North Laurel beat Grant County 34-21
South Laurel knocked off Leslie County 47-29
and Wayne County beat Rockcastle County 28-14

Tonight, the Letcher County Central Cougar Football team will wrap up the regular season tonight with a road game at Breathitt County in Jackson.  Kickoff at 7:30pm.  Appalachian WIreless Pregame here on the Bulldog begins at 6:45.  The Cougars will then open the post season with a home playoff game against Madison Southern on Friday November 7.  

The Jenkins Cavaliers will wrap up their regular season at Betsy Layne this Friday with kickoff at 7:30.  Jenkins will play Williamsburg next Friday in the first round of the Class A playoffs.

LCC MIDDLE SCHOOL COUGARS IN STATE SEMI-FINALS THIS WEEKEND


The Region 3 Division 3 champion, Letcher County Central Middle School Cougars football team will play Caldwell County in the state semi-finals this Saturday at 4:30pm at Lexington Catholic High School. The other semi-final game will be Somerset against LCA.  If the Cougars win, they would play for the division 3 state championship Sunday at 12:30pm at Bryan Station HS.

UK FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL THIS WEEKEND

The 5-3 UK Wildcats football team will be on the road at Missouri in SEC play this Saturday.   Kickoff is at 4:00pm with pre-game at 2:30pm here on the Bulldog.

The UK Basketball team will play the first of 2 exhibition games on Sunday at 7:00pm against UPike at Rupp Arena.

LCC vs. HAZARD PLAY IN THE 14TH REGION VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME TONIGHT

It will be the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars taking on the Hazard Lady Bulldog for the 14th Region Volleyball tournament championship tonight.

Last night in the semi-finals Letcher County Central beat Leslie County 3-0 and Hazard knocked off Jackson City 3-0.

Tonight's Volleyball 14th Region championship game between LCC and Hazard begins at 7:00pm at Knott County Central High School.

LCC MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL COUGARS IN STATE SEMI-FINALS

The Letcher County Central Cougar Football team will wrap up the regular season with a road game at Breathitt County Friday night in Jackson.  Kickoff at 7:30pm.  Pregame here on the Bulldog begins at 6:45.  The Cougars will then open the post season with a home playoff game against Madison Southern on Friday November 7.   Madison Southern star running back Damien Harris was cleared to play yesterday, after sitting out several games due to an injury.

The Jenkins Cavaliers will wrap up their regular season at Betsy Layne this Friday with kickoff at 7:30.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

The Letcher County Central Cougar Football team improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the district as they edged Perry County Central in overtime 30-22 on the road Friday night in a game with a wild finish.  Hunter Hall, Zane Blair and Tanner Lucas were named the players of the game from 103.9 The Bulldog.  The Cougars will now face Whitley County this Friday at home for the district championship on Senior Night.

In other games Friday:

Hazard beat Jenkins 43-6.  Jenkins will be at Harlan for a district game on Friday.

REGION SOCCER TOURNAMENTS

The Girls 14th Region Soccer Tournament begins tonight at Perry County Central with 2 games.

53rd District Champion, the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars take on Breathitt County at 6:00pm then Perry County Central plays Estill County at 8:00p.   The 2 winners play for the Girls Region Championship on Thursday at 6:00pm.

The 14th Region Boys Soccer Tournament begins Tuesday also at Perry County Central.   The two games will be Perry County Central against Powell County at 6:00pm with 53rd District Runner Up Letcher County Central playing Estill County at 8:00pm.  The Boys Soccer Region Championship game will be Thursday at 8:00pm.


53RD DISTRICT VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

The 53rd District Volley Ball Tournament begins tonight at Letcher County Central HS gym.  

Letcher County Central will play June Buchanan at 6:00pm followed by Knott County Central and Jenkins at 7:00pm.  Tonight's two winners will meet Tuesday at 7:00pm at LCC in the 53rd District Volleyball championship game.

UK FOOTBALL

UK lost 41-3 to LSU on the road Saturday night.  The Cats will regroup and play #1 Mississippi State at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington this Saturday.   Kickoff is set for 3:30.  Pre-game begins at 2:00 pm on the Bulldog.  We'll bring you the Coach Mark Stoops Show with Tom Leach tonight at 6:00pm here on the Bulldog.


WHITESBURG LADY JACKETS B AND C TEAM COUNTY CHAMPIONS

The Whitesburg Lady Yellowjackets won the Letcher County B and C Team Girls Basketball Tournament held at Fleming-Neon this past Saturday.

The C team defeated Fleming-Neon 21 to 9 to win the C team championship. The Lady Jacket B team then beat the Fleming-Neon Lady Pirates 21-12 to win the B team championship. Congratulations to the Whitesburg Lady Jackets and head coach Marvin Boggs.

14TH REGION VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

The 14th Region Volleyball tournament semi-finals are now set and will be played tonight.

Last night in opening round games it was Hazard over Owsley County and Jackson City beat Knott County Central.

Semi-final #1 tonight will be Letcher County Central against Leslie County at 6:00pm with Hazard and Jackson City playing around 7:30.

The 14th Region volleyball championship game will be Thursday at 7pm and all games are being played at Knott County Central High School.


LCC MIDDLE SCHOOL IN STATE FOOTBALL SEMI-FINALS

The Letcher County Central Middle School Cougars football team won the Region 3 Division 3 championship on Saturday beating Paintsville.  The LCC Middle School team will now advance to the State Tournament to face Caldwell County in the state semi-finals this Saturday at 4:30pm at Lexington Catholic High School.  The division 3 state championship game will be Sunday at 12:30pm at Bryan Station HS.

SOCCER

The Letcher County Central Cougar boys soccer team came up short in the 53rd District Tournament championship game last night at LCC.  The Cougars lost to Perry County Central 4-1.  Congratulations to the Commodores on being 53rd District Champion in 2014.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

It's High School Football Friday night and the 5-2 Letcher County Central Cougars will be at 1-6 Perry County Central tonight for a big district matchup.  We'll bring you the action here on the Bulldog.  Kickoff at 7:30pm.  Pre-game begins at 6:45.

Also tonight Hazard is at Jenkins to face the Cavaliers in a district game.

In Volleyball,  the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars lost to Betsy Layne on the road last night 3-0 and finish the regular season at 19-11.

The Jenkins Lady Cavalier Volleyball team also lost their regular season finale at Shelby Valley 3-0.

The 53rd District Volleyball tournament begins next week for both Jenkins and LCC.  It will be played at Letcher County Central High School.

UK FOOTBALL

The 5-1 UK Wildcats are on the road this week to battle the LSU Tigers.  Game time Saturday night is at 7:30.  Pre-game begins at 6pm here on the Bulldog.
