A Perry County man is behind bars for an alleged shooting incident at the Hazard Village Shopping Center last week. Police say 32 year old Bill Collins of Litt Carr in Knott County fired shots at a car following an argument with a woman. Collins is being held on attempted murder charges at the Kentucky River Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash bond. _____ Police say they caught two people who were targeting area Walmart stores. Video was released in December of a man and woman stealing thousands of dollars worth of items from Walmarts in several Kentucky towns. Last month, police identified the suspects as 36 year-old Hobert Buttery and 24 year-old Amanda Rader of Jackson County. Kentucky State Police in London arrested both of them Monday after a traffic stop on I-75 near the Tennessee border. _____ A fun afternoon with some friends turned tragic. Investigators say a 16-year-old has died after being thrown off his ATV, which then landed on him. The crash happened late Monday afternoon on Pine Grove School Road in Laurel County near London. The young man identified by the Laurel County Coroner as 16-year-old Andrew Gregory had been separated from his friends for about 15 minutes when investigators say those friends began to get worried and went looking for him. Investigators say Gregory had driven a short distance away from his friends when he lost control of the 4-wheeler and crashed. The coroner tells us Gregory died at the scene of blunt force trauma to the chest. _____ After months of financial problems and water outages, the troubled Green Hills Water District in Harlan County is a step closer to merging with another district. Officials with both the Black Mountain Utilities and Green Hills agreed to temporarily join forces. The people of Bledsoe have had their water come and go in the past few months, but a new agreement will likely keep it flowing in the future. Members of the Black Mountain Utilities District board voted to take over the Green Hills operations and form one water district. _____ Prosecution testimony is underway in the trial of a former 911 Director in Lawrence County, Ky. charged with rape. 49-year-old Jeffrey Pack of Louisa is charged with three counts of 3rd degree rape. The trial is taking place in Lawrence County Circuit Court. It began with jury selection Monday morning. Investigators say Pack was engaging in illegal sexual activity with an underage female, who was an acquaintance. He was arrested by Kentucky State Police in March 2011. During Pack’s preliminary hearing, Prosecutor Michael Hogan told the court that Pack was a Deacon in his church and that the first alleged rape happened on a church trip in Georgia when the victim was 15, and then continued back in Lawrence County until after the victim turned 16. The trial is expected to wrap up today. Pack resigned as 911 Director in November 2007 following allegations of inappropriate behavior. _____ A Johnson County man has died from his injuries after a wreck over the weekend. The sheriff says two cars crashed on U.S. 23. The coroner says 72 year old John Richard Dollarhide of Van Lear was thrown out of his vehicle. He died at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center on Saturday. _____ Sewage running into a creek in Perry County makes for a smelly mess for the people of Vicco. The community's biggest concern is the health of the people and wildlife in the area. Although the mayor says sewage does not continuously run into the creek, the people of Vicco say the problem has gone on long enough and it needs to be fixed. The new mayor of Vicco, Johnny Cummings, says the problem stems from bad pumps and switches at the Vicco Utilities Plant but there is no funding in place to fix it. City officials plan to possibly borrow money and have the problem fixed by the end of this week. _____ A Floyd County judge has ruled the City of Martin must pay the Floyd County Fiscal Court money from garbage collection. The issue is part of a lawsuit between the two. The Floyd County Attorney claimed city of Martin officials were illegally withholding the garbage money. City officials claimed the money was going to pay off the county's alleged debt for using the water treatment facility. City officials still claim the fiscal court owes them nearly $60,000. That matter is still pending in court. |
