Fire investigators say it could be next week before they know what started a morning house fire in Jackson County.

Dora Brewer, a seven-year-old girl with autism died when she hid from the flames in her bedroom.

Dora's mother, sister and infant niece were also inside when the fire started.

Despite recovering from some burns and smoke inhalation at UK Hospital, fire investigators say they'll be OK.

A Knott County man is dead after a car crash.

Kentucky State Police say 51 year old Jerry Moore of Lackey was killed when he lost control of his car on Highway 550 about 9:00am Wednesday morning.

Police say the car crossed the center line, went over an embankment, and into a creek before hitting a tree.

It took emergency responders 2 and 1/2 hours to remove Moore from the wreckage. 

He was taken to St. Joseph in Martin where he was pronounced dead.

A Martin County man is recovering following a late night stabbing.

It happened Wednesday at Moore's trailer park in the community of Lovely.

Police say Marlina Evans stabbed her brother, William Ray Evans.

Evans was flown to Cabell Huntington hospital.

His condition is not known.

Marlina Evans was arrested and is charged with first degree assault.

She is being held in the Big Sandy detention center.

No motive was given.

Kentucky Power will soon begin construction on a new, 62 million dollar electric transmission line in Knott and Perry Counties.

Officials say it's needed to improve electric service reliability and to meet a growing demand for electricity.

The line is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

Customers are not expected to see a rate adjustment due to this project before the line is completed.

A Middlesboro woman is dead after being hit by two cars.

Alma Jean Brown was walking in the middle of the southbound lanes of U.S. 25E just south of Pineville when she was hit by a Chevrolet Cobalt then hit again by a Chevrolet Tahoe.

Blood tests are pending.

No charges are expected.

An eastern Kentucky mayor has filed an ethics complaint against a council member.

The controversy has been stirring for several weeks in the City of Cumberland.

Mayor Carl Hatfield recently fired the police chief, and now Hatfield has filed an ethics complaint against the police chief's brother and Cumberland Council Member Charles Raleigh.

In the complaint, Hatfield alleges that Raleigh gave the news media false information.

But Raleigh says he has evidence to back up all of the allegations.

In a response from the Cumberland Valley Regional Board of Ethics, a staff level review says that Raleigh did not violate the cited provision.

Hatfield has until February 6th to file an appeal.

Their last council meeting on January 10th was postponed due to all the controversy.

It has been rescheduled with a special called meeting this afternoon at 5:00 p.m.

One man is still in the hospital after a mine related accident in Harlan County.

State officials say 48 year old James Nash of Speedwell, Tennessee was operating a dozer when it overturned, causing serious injuries.

Nash was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport where he remains in stable condition.

Police have arrested a 77-year-old man for shooting at a car and injuring a passenger.

State police charged Ivan Gibson with assault and wanton endangerment.

They say Gibson shot at a vehicle on Highway 550 in the Garner community of Knott County.

The victim says Gibson shot out his tire and shot his passenger in the hand before taking off.

A Harlan County man is out of jail after allegedly assaulting someone.

Kentucky State Police say 61 year old Jimmy Gambrel hit Daniel Miller with a wooden club after an argument.

Officials say Miller then left in his vehicle and Gambrel rammed his truck.

Two children were in the vehicle with Gambrel.

He is charged with assault and wanton endangerment of a child.

Pike County officials say EQT's drilling suspension in eastern Kentucky will not affect the EQT headquarters being built in Pike County.

Last week, EQT suspended new drilling operations in the area due to falling natural gas prices.

Thirty-nine jobs are being transferred from Pike County to other states.

However, county officials say the construction on the new EQT headquarters at Scott Fork is on schedule and EQT will still have 200 new jobs at the plant.

The funeral services for James I Thacker , the Pike County Sheriff's Deputy that was killed in a car accident Monday night on US 460 while on duty will be held this afternoon at 1:00pm at East Ridge High School. 

East Ridge High School is closed today for the funeral but all the feeder elementary and middle schools will be open on the regular schedule.
