The Letcher County Central Cougar Boys basketball team evened their record to 2-2 last night with a win over Phelps 73-51 at LCC.

The Cougars were led in scoring by Senior Josh Owens, who had 19 along with 7 rebounds.  Freshmen Torrell Carter had 11.

The Cougars were scheduled to play at Belfry on Saturday but that game has been moved to tonight and will still be played at Belfry. 

Gametime for the Cougars & Pirates will be 8:00pm and varsity only.

and in OT, Sheldon Clark 65 Johnson Central 64

Tonight, Jenkins boys will play at Shelby Valley and Hazard is at Perry County Central.

Powell County over Hazard 65-45
and Shelby Valley beat Belfry 57-20.

The game before at 6:00pm will be Knott County Central taking on LCC in a freshmen game.

LCC girls will play at Bell County Saturday at 3:30 and Jenkins will play at Pike County Central Monday at 6.

The Letcher County Central Archery Team, boys and girls, will compete in a local shoot at Fleming Neon Middle School Gym on Saturday.  Varsity shoots at 9:00am with JV at 3:00pm.

The LCC Wrestling Team will be competing at Johnson Central tomorrow, Saturday morning at 9:00am.

Best wishes to the the LCC Lady Cougar Cheerleading Squad, they will compete Saturday in the KHSAA Cheer Championships at the KY Horse Park in Lexington.  It begins at 10:00am.

Perry County Central girls' basketball coach Randy Napier is the new all-time winningest coach in girls hoops in Kentucky.

Napier's Lady Commodores beat Jackson City 85-51 Wednesday night to surpass former Marshall County coach Howard Beth with his 794th career win.

Napier, who guided M.C. Napier to the 1994 Sweet 16 girls' state title, has also captured nine 14th region titles in 32 years of coaching.

The Cats are 8-2 on the season and will have a huge game this Saturday in Chapel Hill against the North Carolina Tarheels.

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars game with Betsy Layne scheduled for last night was postponed due to lack of heat in the Betsy Layne Gym.  

Up next for the 1-1 Lady Cougars will be the home opener this Friday.  It will be a cross county matchup with the unbeaten Jenkins Lady Cavaliers.  

Gametime is at 7:30pm and we'll broadcast the game here on 103.9 The Bulldog.

The Lady Cavaliers are 4-0 after knocking off June Buchanan in a district game last night at home.  The final was 80-54.

Jenkins Girls will play Knott County Central at home tonight at 6:00pm then at LCC on Friday.

In an early seson  53rd District matchup The Knott County Central Patriots beat the Cordia Lions at Cordia 79-64.

The #6 Patriots is now 3-0 and was led by Evan Hall's 21, Chance Cornett had 20, and Camron Justice 18.

Cordia is 2-1 and led by Cunningham with 27.

Congratulations to the Belfry Pirates and coach Phillip Haywood for winning their 4th KHSAA high school football state title.

The Pirates beat previously unbeaten Wayne County 3-0 on a wintry Friday afternoon in Bowling Green.  

It was the Pirates first title since 2004 and they finish the season at 14-1.  That one loss coming to Johnson Central.

In the other state championship games in Bowling Green Friday, Saturday and Sunday:

Class 4A Collins beat Highlands 37-34
Class 5A Bowling Green 49 Pulaski County 14
and in 6A Scott County outlasted Meade County 21-14.

In high school basketball over the weekend,  the Letcher County Central Cougar Boys lost to Corbin 66-50 in the Big Red Shootout held at Clay County in Manchester.  

The 1-2 Cougar Boys will next play Phelps at home this Thursday.  We'll broadcast that game live here on the Bulldog.

The Jenkins Cavalier Boys lost to Jackson City Friday night on the road 71-42.

The 0-2 Cavaliers will play June Buchanan in their home opener tonight.  It's a district game starting at 7:30.

The 1-1 Lady Cougars will be on the road tonight to face Betsy Lane at 8:00pm.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers are 3-0 now after beating Cordia 79-24 Friday and South Floyd 82-28 on Saturday.  The Lady Cavs play June Buchanan at home tonight at 6:00pm in a district game and part of a boys/girls doubleheader.

Also Saturday Knott County Central beat Sheldon Clark 47-42.
