The boys and girls 53rd District Championship games went down to the wire Friday and Saturday at Knott County Central.

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars won the Girls district championship game Friday night 61-58 over Knott County Central.

The Lady Cougars withstood a furious comeback by the Lady Patriots to win a 3rd straight district championship.

In the boys championship game Saturday, the Knott County Central Patriots beat the Cordia Lions 62-60.  

Knott Central came back from 18 down to get the win and claim their 5th straight district championship.

The Boys and Girls 14th Region tournaments get underway this week.

The Girls opening round games will be Monday and Tuesday, semi-finals on Friday and championship game on Saturday, all at Leslie County High School in Hyden.

Tonight's two girls games will be Powell County and Jackson City at 6:30pm, followed by Letcher County Central against Leslie County, in maybe the toughest first round game, starting at 8:15.  

Weather permitting, we'll bring you the LCC-Leslie County game live here on the Bulldog with pre-game this evening around 7:45.

Tuesday night in the girls tournament at 6:30pm Perry County Central plays Knott County Central and Breathitt County takes on Lee County around 8:15.

The Boys 14th Region Tournament begins with opening round games Wednesday and Thursday, semi-finals Monday and championship next Tuesday all at Perry County Central.

Wednesday at 6:30pm, Breathitt County plays Estill County and at 8:15 Knott County Central battles Perry County Central.

Thursday night at 6:30pm it's Hazard and Cordia followed by Powell County against Wolfe County at 8:15.

The Cincinnati Reds are now 3-2 in Spring Training after picking up wins Saturday over the Rockies 3-2 and Sunday 15-4 over the Padres.  

They will play the Mariners this afternoon in Arizona.  

First pitch is at 3:05pm, pre-game at 2:50 on AM 920 WTCW.  

The Reds regular season schedule begins March 31st against the St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park.

The KY Wildcats lost to last place South Carolina on the road Saturday 72-67 to give them back to back losses and the Cats 3rd loss in 5 games.  

They are now 21-8 overall and 11-5 in SEC play.  

We'll have the Coach Cal Show with Tom Leach tonight at 6:00pm on the Bulldog, followed by Big Blue Weekly at 7.

The Cats have 2 game left in the regular season and will next play Alabama at Rupp Arena Tuesday night at 9:00pm.

Tonight at the Morton Combs Athletic Complex in Hindman, it's the Girls 53rd District Championship as the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will battle the Knott County Central Lady Patriots.

Tip off is set for 7:00pm and we'll bring you the game live here on the Bulldog and at www.1039thebulldog.com.  

Pre-Game begins at 6:30.

Several Boys High School Basketball District Championship games will be held tonight:

The 54th District Championship will be Perry County Central taking on Hazard at Hazard.

The 55th District Championship game will be Wolfe County playing Breathitt County at Jackson.

Also the 56th District Championship game will be tonight as Estill County takes on Powell County at Lee County in Beattyville.

The Boys 53rd District Championship game will be Saturday night at 7 as Knott County Central battles Cordia at Knott Central.

The Boys 14th Region Tournament begins Wednesday of next week at Perry County Central.

The Cincinnati Reds are now 1-1 in Spring Training games after losing to the Cleveland Indians on Thursday afternoon 12-2.  

The Reds and Indians will play again this afternoon in Goodyear, Arizona.   

First pitch is at 3:05.  

Pre-Game begins at 2:50pm on your home for Reds baseball in 2014, AM 920 WTCW.  

The Reds will play the Rockies at 3:05 Saturday and the Padres at 3:05 on Sunday.

After losing to Arkansas at  home in OT last night 71-67, the UK Wildcats are now 21-7 overall and 11-4 in the SEC.  

The Cats only have 3 regular season games left and will now play at South Carolina on Saturday.  

Tip off is set for 6:00pm.

Night #2 of the 2014 53rd District Tournament was played at Knott County Central High School in Hindman last night.

In the 2 games broadcast live on the Bulldog, The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers lost to Knott County Central 72-52 to end their season at 17-12.  

The Lady Cavs were led by Whitney Creech, the state's leading scorer, with 33.  

Knott County Central advances to the District Finals on Friday to face either Letcher County Central or June Buchanan.  

Game two last night was the boys as Cordia ends the season for the Letcher County Central Cougars.  

The final was Cordia 66 LCC 45.  The Lions led by only 3 at Halftme but outscored the Cougars 46 to 28 in the 2nd half.  

Josh Owens led the Cougars with 24 points.  

The Cougars finish a solid season at 16-13 and it was the final game for the Seniors Josh Owens, Chippy Frazier and Kyler Lucas.

Cordia will now face either Knott County Central or June Buchanan for the district title on Saturday.  

Tonight the 53rd District Tournament continues with 2 more semi-final games. 

Game one at 6:00pm will be Knott County Central boys taking on June Buchanan and in game two around 7:30 the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will face June Buchanan.  

The two winners advance to the District finals.  

We'll bring you both games tonight from Hindman.  

Our Pre-Game show begins at 5:30.

LCCHS Cross Country and Track Star, Chase Cates, will be signing scholarship papers to run Cross Country and Track for Union College this Wednesday at 11:00am in the Library at Letcher County Central High School.

The 53rd District Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament Championship Games are now set.   

The last 2 semi-final games were played Wednesday night at Knott County Central.  

In game 1, the #1 boys seed Knott County Central beat June Buchanan 86-38, Cameron Justice had 28, and in game 2, the #1 girls seed, the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars overcame a sluggish game to squeeze by June Buchanan 46-44.  

The Lady Cougars were led by Sara Baker with 5-3's and 15 points.  

There are no games tonight in the 53rd District Tournament but the Girls championship game will be Friday at 7 as Letcher County Central takes on Knott County Central.   

The Boys district championship game will be Knott County Central against Cordia and will tip off at 7 on Saturday night.

Both championship games will be held in Hindman at Knott County Central.

The 14th Region Tournaments will be held next week with the Boys at Perry County Central and the Girls at Leslie County.

The 2014 53rd District Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament got underway last night at Knott County Central.  

In game featuring the boys, it was June Buchanan over Jenkins 62-42.   

June Buchanan will now advance to play #1 seed Knott County Central on Wednesday at 6:00pm.   

In game two last night featuring the girls June Buchanan beat Cordia 71-33.   

June Buchanan will advance to play #1 seed the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars Wednesday at 7:30pm.

Tonight we have 2 more games in the 53rd district tournament.  

Game one at 6:00pm will be girls #2 seed Knott County Central taking on #3 seed Jenkins.  

Game two at 7:30pm will be the boys as Cordia battles Letcher County Central.

We'll broadcast both games here on the Bulldog from Knott County Central in Hindman.  

Pre-Game begins at 5:30pm.

Letcher County Central Coach Robert Hammonds has been named the 2014 KABC 14th Region Coach of the Year, as voted on by coaches.   

Justin Johnson of Perry County Central was named KABC 14th Region Player of the Year.

LCCHS Cross Country and Track Star, Chase Cates, will be signing scholarship papers to run Cross Country and Track for Union College this Wednesday at 11:00am in the Library at Letcher County Central High School.

The Letcher County Central High School Archery Team 1 took 1st place and Team 2 took 2nd place in the Region 12 tournament this weekend at LCC.  

Teams 1 and 2 advance to the KHSAA State Archery Tournament to be held in Louisville on March 17, 2014.

Martha Jane Potter received 1st place in the elementary Archery Region Tournament Saturday and Fleming Neon Middle School won the Middle school regionals.

The Letcher County Central Dance Team  won 1st place in the open division of the state competition in Frankfort on Saturday.

Letcher Middle Volleyball participated in the Shelby Damron Memorial Invitational Tournament over the weekend at John's Creek in Pike County.

They won the Championship trophy.

Teams in the tournament were Phelps, Pikeville, Johns Creek, Kimper, Feds Creek, Mullins, Valley, Dorton, Millard and Belfry.
