HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

The Letcher County Central Cougar baseball team wrapped up the season Saturday at 22-12 overall.   The Cougars Senior night game on Friday against Lawrence County was rained out.  On Saturday morning the Cougars went to Belfry and lost 12-8 but then returned home for Senior night against Harlan County and won in an exciting game 4-3.  

Jenkins warpped up their regular season at 2-16.   

The 2014 baseball 53rd District Tournament begins tonight at Letcher County Central but is being hosted by Jenkins.

There's one game tonight in the district tournament.  It's the play in game between 4 and 5 seeds Jenkins and June Buchanan.  The winner will play #1 seed Knott County Central at 6:00pm Tuesday.   Also Tuesday at 8:00pm #2 seed Letcher County Central plays #3 seed Cordia.     

The championship game will be Wednesday at 7:00pm at LCC and we'll air that game live here on the Bulldog.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

In softball,  the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars finish the regular season at 17-14.  

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers beat Harlan Friday 4-2 to finish at 25-4 overall.

The softball 53rd District Tournament begins tonight at Knott County Central.

There are 2 games tonight with game one at 6:00pm featuring Jenkins and Cordia then around 7:30pm Letcher County Central plays Knott County Central.

The 2 winners will meet for the District Championship Tuesday night also at Knott Central in Hindman.

STATE TRACK MEET


Class 2A Region 7 champions, the Letcher County Central Boys and Girls Track Teams will compete this Friday May 23 in the KHSAA State Track and Field Championships at the UK Outdoor Track Complex in Lexington.

CINCINNATI REDS BASEBALL

The Reds lost 2 of 3 on the road over the weekend to the Philadelphia Phillies.   They won Friday 3-0 but lost Saturday 12-1 and 8-3 on Sunday.   The Reds are now 19-23 on the season, in 3rd place and 7 games back of Milwaukee in the NL Central.  

They will continue this 2 city 6 game road trip starting tonight with 3 in Washington against the Nationals.  Game time tonight for the Reds and Nationals is 7:05 with pre-game on AM 920 at 6:35.

HS BASEBALL & SOFTBALL

The Letcher County Central Cougar baseball team got homeruns from Zane Blair and Dakota Yonts last night in Lexington but it wasn't enough for the Cougars to pull off the road win over Henry Clay.  They lost 6-5 to fall to 21-11 overall.   LCC returns home for Senior night tonight and to wrap up the regular season against Lawrence County.   Game time is at 6:30pm this evening.    

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars softball team is 15-14 overall and will next play a district double header at home against June Buchanan tonight at 5:30 and 7:00pm.  They wrap up the regular season with a home double header Saturday against Allen Central.  Game one time is at 11:00am.

The 24-4 Jenkins Lady Cavaliers will wrap up the regular season with a home game tonight against the Harlan Lady Dragons at 6:00pm.

53RD DISTRICT BASEBALL/SOFTBALL TOURNAMENTS

The 53rd district boys baseball and girls softball tournaments will held early next week.  Baseball will be Monday-Wednesday  at Letcher County Central and hosted by Jenkins and Softball will be Monday and Tuesday at Knott County Central.

KHSAA FOOTBALL RE-ALIGNMENT

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association's Board of Control had a busy meeting Tuesday.

It finalized a new football alignment, awarded the Girls' Sweet Sixteen to the Bank of Kentucky Center in Northern Kentucky for 2016, and voted to keep the girls' state softball tournament in Owensboro.

The football alignment that goes into effect with the 2015 season is close to what was proposed last month.

The Letcher County Central Cougars remain Class 5A District 8.  That district now has 5 teams with LCC, Harlan County, Perry County Central, North Laurel and Whitley County.

Jenkins will stlll be Class A District 8 with Phelps, Pikeville and South Floyd.  

LCC TENNIS STATE TOURNAMENT

Letcher County Central's Brittany Wright will be competing in the KHSAA Girls State Tennis Tournament this Thursday, May 15 at the Shillito Park Tennis Complex in Lexington.

Letcher County Central's Dylan Caudill and Jordan Morrow will be competing in the KHSAA Boys State Tennis Tournament (doubles competition) also this Thursday, May 15 at the Universtiy of Kentucky Boone/Downing Tennis Complex

HS BASEBALL & SOFTBALL

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars have now won 7 of 8 games after beating Harlan Independent at home last night 12-2 in 5 innings.  The Lady Cougars are 15-12 overall and will next play a double header at home against Clintwood, VA Thursday at 5:30 and 7:30pm.  

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers got a nice 5 inning, 13-1 win over East Ridge last night on the road to win their 7th game in a row.  Jenkins is now 24-4 and will wrap up the regular season with a home game against Harlan Friday at 6:00pm.

In baseball the Letcher County Central Cougars have two games left in the regular season.   They will play at Henry Clay in Lexington Thursday at 7:00pm and then return home for Senior night against Lawrence County Friday night at 6:30pm.  

The Jenkins Cavaliers beat Phelps 13-8 at home on Tuesday.  They wrap up the regular season with a district game against June Buchanan Thursday at 5:30pm.  

The 53rd district boys baseball and girls softball tournaments will begin next week.  Baseball will be at Letcher County Central and hosted by Jenkins and Softball will be at Knott County Central.  The Boys Region is at Buckhorn and the Girls Region is at LCC.

REDS BASEBALL

The Reds lost to the Padres 3-2 Tueday in game 1 of a 3 game series at GABP.  The Reds are now 17-20 and 7 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central in 3rd place.  Game 2 of this 3 game set against the Padres will be tonight at 7:10pm.  Pre-game starts at 6:40pm on AM 920.  The Reds wrap up the series with a 12:35 afternoon game on Thursday.

HS BASEBALL & SOFTBALL

In baseball the Letcher County Central Cougars are 21-10 after losing Monday at Central HS of Wise County VA 11-3.  The Cougars will play at Henry Clay in Lexington tonight at 7:00pm and then return home for Senior night and to wrap up the regular season against Lawrence County Friday night at 6:30pm.  

The Jenkins Cavaliers wrap up the regular season with a district game against June Buchanan Thursday at 5:30pm.  

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars lost both games of a home double header against Clintwood VA last night and ended a 3 game winning streak.  LCC lost 6-1 and in a marathon, 6-4 in 11 innings.    The Lady Cougars are 15-14 overall and will next play a district double header at home against June Buchanan tonight at 5:30 and 7:00pm.  

The 24-4 Jenkins Lady Cavaliers will wrap up the regular season with a home game against Harlan Friday at 6:00pm.

The 53rd district boys baseball and girls softball tournaments will held early next week.  Baseball will be Monday-Wednesday  at Letcher County Central and hosted by Jenkins and Softball will be Monday and Tuesday at Knott County Central.

REDS BASEBALL

The Reds-Padres game last night at GABP was rained out and will be played as part of a day night doubleheader today.  The first game will be this afternoon at 12:35pm with pre-game at 12:05 on AM 920.  Game two will be at 6:10pm this evening with pre-game at 5:40 on AM 920.  The Reds are now 6.5 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central in 3rd place.  After today's double header, the Reds will play 3 in Philadelphia against the Phillies Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

LCC TENNIS STATE TOURNAMENT

Letcher County Central's Brittany Wright will be competing in the KHSAA Girls State Tennis Tournament this Thursday, May 15 at the Shillito Park Tennis Complex in Lexington.

Letcher County Central's Dylan Caudill and Jordan Morrow will be competing in the KHSAA Boys State Tennis Tournament (doubles competition) also this Thursday, May 15 at the Universtiy of Kentucky Boone/Downing Tennis Complex.

HS BASEBALL & SOFTBALL

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars honored seniors Bradlyn Polis, Seanna Coots, Madison Stump and Sarah Wooten last night and then shutout Hazard 11-0 in 5 innings to get a 14th region win and their 6th win in 7 games.  LCC will play the Harlan Lady Green Dragons tonight at home at 6:00pm.

The Jenkins Lady Cavs honored Mercedes Boggs on senior night and picked up two more wins beating Shelby Valley twice in a double header....first game 18 to 0 in three inning with Whitney Creech hitting a grand slam out of the park home run. The score of the second game was 9 to 5.  Jenkins is 23-4 overall and will play on the road at East Ridge today at 6:00pm.
