In girls high school softball Wednesday, in the pouring rain at Jenkins the Lady Cavaliers beat the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars 13-4.  Melissa Bartley hit an out of the park 2 RBI Home Run for the Lady Cavaliers who improve to 18-4 overall.  Jenkins next game is today in a district game at Knott County Central starting at 6:00pm.  The 8-9 LCC Lady Cougars will next play  Knott County Central Friday at home in a district game at 6:00pm.  LCC will take on Powell County at home Saturday at 12 noon.

The 15-8 Letcher County Central Cougars baseball team is back in action tonight at home against the Harlan Green Dragons.  Game time is 6:00pm this evening and we'll broadcast the LCC-Harlan game here on the Bulldog with Pre-game at 5:45.  The Cougars will then play a district doubleheader Friday at home against Cordia at 5:30pm and 7:30pm.  This Saturday at Letcher County Central it's the 6th Annual Letcher County Kentucky Farm Bureau Classic with LCC, Perry Central and Betsy Layne.

The Jenkins Cavaliers next baseball game will be at Betsy Layne this afternoon at 6:00pm.

The LCC Girls Tennis Team will compete in singles and doubles matches this Friday and the LCC Boys Tennis Team will compete in singles and doubles matches on Saturday in the 14th Region Tennis Tournaments both being held at Knott County Central.

The LCC Boys and Girls Track Team will compete with several teams in the Bell County All Comers Meet on Friday at 5:00pm at Bell County HS near Middlesboro.

Rain and storms have cancelled most sporting events at LCC and Jenkins in the last two days.  

Weather permitting, this afternoon, the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will play at Jenkins against the Lady Cavaliers in a county district matchup.  LCC is 8-8 and Jenkins is 17-4.   Game time is 6:00pm.  LCC will then play Knott County Central Friday at home in a district game at 6:00pm.  We'll broadcast that game live here on the Bulldog.  Jenkins next game after LCC today will be tomorrow in a district game at Knott County Central at 6:00pm.

Congratulations to LCC Senior Callie Baker! She will be signing Cheerleading Scholarship papers with Union College in the Library at Letcher County Central High School this morning at 11:00 a.m.

Game 2 of this rain shortened series between the Reds and Cubs will be tonight at 7:10pm.  Pre-game begins at 6:40pm on AM 920 WTCW.  The Reds remain home for a 4 game series starting Thursday and going through the weekend against the NL Central leading Milwaukee Brewers.

Congratulations to the Letcher County Central Boys and Girls Track Teams as both placed 1st at the Area 9 DIstrict Meet on Saturday at Leslie County.   The girls won 1st place, beating Leslie County by 5 points and the boys tied for 1st with Leslie County.  Jenkins Boys placed 2nd.   The Region meet will be May 10th at Leslie County and the State meet will be Memorial Day weekend at UK in Lexington.

The Jenkins Lady Cavalier made an appearance in the All A State Softball Tournament on Saturday for the 8th consecutive year.   The Lady Cavaliers beat Middlesboro in 9 innings 11-9 in game one but then lost to Walton Verona 10-3 and Green County 11-0 in the double elimination tournament.   LIvingston Central won the State Softball Title on Sunday beat Louisville Holy Cross 10-0 in th Championship Game.  The Pikeville Lady Panthers made it to the state semi-finals before losing to the eventual state champ  Livingston Central.   

Jenkins is 17-4 overall and will get right back at it today with a game at Perry County Central.  First pitch is at 6:00pm.   The Lady Cavaliers will host Letcher County Central on Tuesday starting at 6:00pm.  
The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars went 2-1 in the Wizard of Ozz Classic hosted by LCC on Friday and Saturday.
 
The Lady Cougars beat Belfry 8-1 and Shelby Valley 9-2 on Friday night.   They lost to East Ridge 12-5 on Saturday.    The 8-8 Lady Cougars will have a home doubleheader against Cordia this afternoon at 6:00 and 7:30pm.

In high school baseball,  the Letcher County Central Cougars won both games they played in the 3rd Annual Buddy Roe Invitational.    The Cougars beat Harlan County 3-1 and Estill County 10-7.    Counting a double header forfeit from June Buchanan, the Cougars have won 7 in row and stand at 15-8 overall.   The game scheduled Friday against Breathitt County at home was postponed and will be made up today at LCC beginning at 6:00pm.
 
The Jenkins Cavaliers will be at home to play Shelby Valley this afternoon at 6:00pm.

After winning 7 of 9 games, the Reds were swept by the Braves in Atlanta this weekend.  They lost Friday 5-4, 4-1 on Saturday and 1-0 on Sunday.  The Reds are now 11-14 in 3rd place 7 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central.  The Reds are back home after the 10 game road trip to face the Cubs for three to wrap up April.   Game time tonight is 7:10 for the Reds-Cubs.  Pre-game begins at 6:40 on AM 920.

Most area baseball and softball games plus tennis matches were rained out on Monday.

The 15-8 Letcher County Central Cougars baseball team plays again Thursday at home against Harlan Independent at 6:00pm.  We'll broadcast the LCC-Harlan game here on the Bulldog with Pre-game at 5:45.  The Cougars will then play a district doubleheader Friday at home against Cordia at 5:30pm and 7:30pm.

After LCC today, Jenkins will play a district game at Knott County Central Thursday at 6:00pm.

Game one of the Reds 3 games series at home against the Chicago Cubs was rained out last night.  The game will be made up later in the season.  Game 2 will be tonight at 7:10pm for the Reds-Cubs.  Pre-game begins at 6:40 on AM 920.  The Reds are in 3rd place in the NL Central 7.5 games behind Milwaukee and 2 games behind 2nd place St. Louis.

The Letcher County Central Cougars baseball team has won 3 in a row and is 11-8 on the 2014 season heading into a big weekend of play.  The Cougars beat Jenkins on the road in a district matchup last night 21-3.  Tonight the LCC Cougars will take on Breathitt County at home at 6:00pm and then Saturday the Cougars will host the 3rd Annual Buddy Roe Invitational.  The Cougars will play Harlan County at 10 Saturday morning then play Estill County at 12:30pm.  Harlan County and Estill County will play the final game Saturday at 3:00pm to wrap up the Buddy Roe Classic.

The Jenkins Cavaliers will play Knott County Central at home this afternoon at 5:00pm in a district game.  

In high school softball, the 16-2 Jenkins Lady Cavaliers are getting ready for their 8th straight appearance in the All A State Tournament tomorrow at Jack Fischer Park in Owensboro.  They play Middlesboro at 9:00am Saturday to begin pool play of the double elimination All A State Tournament.

The 6-7 Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will play in and host the Wizard of Ozz Classic featuring several teams today and Saturday at LCC.  The tournament will honor retiring Letcher Central Athletic Director Ozz Jackson.  In the tournament, the Lady Cougars will play Belfry this afternoon at 5:30pm and then Shelby Valley at 8:30pm.  They will also play on Saturday.  

The Letcher County Central Boys and Girls Track teams will compete today in the Area 9 District Championship being held at Leslie County High School.

The Letcher County Central Boys and Girls Tennis Teams will take on Oneida Baptist today here at home at 5:30pm.

The Reds took 3 of 4 games from the Pirates in Pittsburgh and have won 7 of their last 9 games.

They are now 5 games back of Milwaukee in 3rd place in the NL Central with a 500 record of 11-11.  

The Reds will wrap up this 3 city 10 game road trip with a series this weekend in Atlanta against the Braves.   Game one tonight is at 7:35.  They play at 7:05 on Saturday and 1:35pm on Sunday.  Catch all 3 games on AM 920 WTCW.
