KHSAA FOOTBALL RE-ALIGNMENT

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association's Board of Control had a busy meeting Tuesday.

It finalized a new football alignment, awarded the Girls' Sweet Sixteen to the Bank of Kentucky Center in Northern Kentucky for 2016, and voted to keep the girls' state softball tournament in Owensboro.

The football alignment that goes into effect with the 2015 season is close to what was proposed last month.

The Letcher County Central Cougars remain Class 5A District 8.  That district now has 5 teams with LCC, Harlan County, Perry County Central, North Laurel and Whitley County.

Jenkins will stlll be Class A District 8 with Phelps, Pikeville and South Floyd.  

LCC TENNIS STATE TOURNAMENT

Letcher County Central's Brittany Wright will be competing in the KHSAA Girls State Tennis Tournament this Thursday, May 15 at the Shillito Park Tennis Complex in Lexington.

Letcher County Central's Dylan Caudill and Jordan Morrow will be competing in the KHSAA Boys State Tennis Tournament (doubles competition) also this Thursday, May 15 at the Universtiy of Kentucky Boone/Downing Tennis Complex

HS BASEBALL & SOFTBALL

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars have now won 7 of 8 games after beating Harlan Independent at home last night 12-2 in 5 innings.  The Lady Cougars are 15-12 overall and will next play a double header at home against Clintwood, VA Thursday at 5:30 and 7:30pm.  

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers got a nice 5 inning, 13-1 win over East Ridge last night on the road to win their 7th game in a row.  Jenkins is now 24-4 and will wrap up the regular season with a home game against Harlan Friday at 6:00pm.

In baseball the Letcher County Central Cougars have two games left in the regular season.   They will play at Henry Clay in Lexington Thursday at 7:00pm and then return home for Senior night against Lawrence County Friday night at 6:30pm.  

The Jenkins Cavaliers beat Phelps 13-8 at home on Tuesday.  They wrap up the regular season with a district game against June Buchanan Thursday at 5:30pm.  

The 53rd district boys baseball and girls softball tournaments will begin next week.  Baseball will be at Letcher County Central and hosted by Jenkins and Softball will be at Knott County Central.  The Boys Region is at Buckhorn and the Girls Region is at LCC.

REDS BASEBALL

The Reds lost to the Padres 3-2 Tueday in game 1 of a 3 game series at GABP.  The Reds are now 17-20 and 7 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central in 3rd place.  Game 2 of this 3 game set against the Padres will be tonight at 7:10pm.  Pre-game starts at 6:40pm on AM 920.  The Reds wrap up the series with a 12:35 afternoon game on Thursday.

LCC TENNIS STATE TOURNAMENT

HS BASEBALL & SOFTBALL

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars honored seniors Bradlyn Polis, Seanna Coots, Madison Stump and Sarah Wooten last night and then shutout Hazard 11-0 in 5 innings to get a 14th region win and their 6th win in 7 games.  LCC will play the Harlan Lady Green Dragons tonight at home at 6:00pm.

The Jenkins Lady Cavs honored Mercedes Boggs on senior night and picked up two more wins beating Shelby Valley twice in a double header....first game 18 to 0 in three inning with Whitney Creech hitting a grand slam out of the park home run. The score of the second game was 9 to 5.  Jenkins is 23-4 overall and will play on the road at East Ridge today at 6:00pm.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars have won 4 in a row after beating Leslie County on the road yesterday 14-4 in 5 innings.   The 12-11 Lady Cougars are back on the road tonight when they play at East Ridge at 6:00pm.  LCC will also have a double header Saturday at home against Harlan County starting at 12 noon.

The Lady Cougars battle Hazard in a 14th Region matchup Monday and we'll broadcast that game live here on the Bulldog.  

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers won't play again until Monday when they take on Shelby Valley in a home game at 5:30pm.
 
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

In baseball, the 21-9 Letcher County Central Cougars baseball team is headed to Lexington this weekend to play in the Fayette County Invitational at Paul Lawrence Dunbar HS.  The Cougars  play East Jessamine tonight at 8:00pm and then take on Dunbar at 10:00am Saturday morning and Louisville Ballard at 12:30 Saturday afternoon.

The Jenkins Cavaliers baseball will have their next game this Monday at home against Knott County Central at 5:30pm in a district game.

TRACK

Letcher County Central Boys and Girls Track Teams will compete in the KHSAA Class 2A Region 7 Track Meet @ Leslie County High School this Saturday.

TRACK

The Class 2A Region 7 Track Meet was held Saturday in the rain at Leslie County High School in Hyden.  The Letcher County Central Boys won 1st place and the Letcher County Central Girls tied with Leslie County to share 1st place. LCC will have several athletes, many of those ranked in the top 10 in the state,  that will compete in the Class 2A  State Track Meet Memorial Day Weekend at UK in Lexington.  Congratulations to the LCC Boys and Girls Track Teams for being the 2014 Class 2A Region 7 champions!

HS BASEBALL & SOFTBALL

This week is the final week of the regular season in high school baseball and softball.

In softball, Letcher County Central is now 13-12 after losing to East Ridge on the road Friday 6-0 and beating Harlan County 9-5 at home on Saturday.  The Lady Cougars will be home for Senior Night tonight as they face Hazard.  We'll bring you the LCC Hazard softball game tonight live on 103.9 The Bulldog.  Game time is 6:00pm with pre-game around 5:45.

The 21-4 Jenkins Lady Cavaliers didn't play over the weekend but is back in action today at home against Shelby Valley at 5:30pm.

In baseball the Letcher County Central Cougars are on the road today for their next game at Central HS in Wise VA.  Game time is 5:30pm.

The Jenkins Cavaliers will play at home today in a district game against Knott County Central.  Game time is 5:30pm.

REDS BASEBALL

The Reds won 2 out of 3 games against the Rockies over the weekend.   They won Friday 4-3 and Sunday 4-1 but lost Saturday 11-2.   The Reds are 6 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central in 3rd place at 17-19 overall.   They are off today before beginning at 3 game series against the Padres Tuesday night at 7:10pm.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars took both games against Cordia in a district double header last night at LCC.  The finals were 20-3 and 15-0.   LCC has won 3 in a row and is back to 500 with an 11-11 overall record on the season.  The Lady Cougars continue to play games daily and today they play at Leslie County at 6:00pm and on Friday they are on the road at East Ridge at 6:00pm.  The Lady Cougars will have a double header Saturday at home against Harlan County starting at 12 noon.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers at Shelby Valley game on Wednesday was cancelled.   The 21-4 Lady Cavaliers will not play again until Monday when they play Shelby Valley in a home game at 5:30pm.
