It's almost high school football time in the mountains!


The Letcher County Central Cougars and new Coach Mike Holcomb begin the 2013 campaign this Friday August 23rd. 

The Cougars open at home vs. Berea in the Sports R Us Bowl at LCC Field.  Gametime is 8:00pm. 

The Appalachian Wireless Cougar Countdown Pre-game Show begins at 7:15p with Kevin Day and Derek Barto.


We will also bring you the Coach Mike Holcomb Show every Wednesday during the season Live at Pine Mountain Grill. 

The first show will be this Wednesday August 21 at 6:30pm.

The Jenkins Cavaliers have a new Coach also, Joe Colwell.

The Cavaliers will open the season on the road at Phelps this Friday August 23rd at 7:30pm.

The UK Wildcats Football season under new Coach Mark Stoops will be here on Saturday August 31st at LP Field in Nashville as they take on Bobby Petrino and the Western KY Hilltoppers.

The first Coach Mark Stoops Show of the Year will be Monday August 26th at 6:00pm.

The Cincinnati Reds took 2 out of 3 games from the Milwaukee Brewers at Great American Ballpark this weekend.


They won 4-3 on Friday, got shutout 6-0 on Saturday but won 5-1 on Father's Day Sunday.

The Reds are 2.5 games behind the Cardinals in the NL Central at 42-28.

They begin a 4 game series tonight against the Pirates at home. 

Game time is 7:10 with pregame at 6:40 on AM 920 WTCW, Your All Sports Station in the Mountains

Letcher County Central Cougar football will have the 2013 Youth Football Non-Contact Camp for Grades 2-8 June 17-20 from 9:00am-11:00am each day.

Breakfast will be served at 8:30am each day.

You can register on the first day(Monday June 17) between 8:00-8:30am.

Each child will learn the basics of football and have fun in 4 practices with Coach Mike Holcomb and his staff along with former and current Cougar football players.

The price is $25.00 per child.

The Cincinnati Reds have won 3 in a row and 12 straight aginst the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

The Reds beat the Cubs 2-1 in a day game yesterday and will go for series sweep this afternoon with another day game.

First pitch for the Reds and Cubs will be 2:20pm with pregame at 1:50 on the ALL NEW, ALL SPORTS 920 AM WTCW.

The Reds return home for a 7 game homestand beginning with the Brewers on Friday and the Pirates in a 4 game set starting Monday.

The Reds are 2.5 games behind St. Louis in the NL Central in 2nd place

The streak ends at 12.  The Chicago Cubs broke a record 12 game Wrigley Field losing streak to the Cincinnati Reds as they won Thursday afternoon beating the Reds 6-5.

With the win the Cubs avoided the 4 game sweep.

The Reds return home for a 7 game homestand starting tonight with the opening game of a 3 game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Gametimes this weekend for the Reds and Brewers will be 7:10pm tonight, 4:10pm on Saturday and 1:10pm on Sunday.

All the Reds games can be heard on the All New, All Sports 920 AM WTCW.

The Reds will then welcome the Pittsburgh Pirates for a 4 game set starting Monday.

The Reds are now 3.5 games behind St. Louis in the NL Central at 40-27.

Even with a thick fog blanketing the stadium, The Reds Homer Bailey went 8 strong and Brandon Phillips tied a career high with six RBIs including a grand slam as Cincy won its 10th straight at Wrigley Field. 

The Reds grabbed a 6-2 win over the Cubs in the series opener Monday night in Chicago.

They are now 3.5 games back of St. Louis in 2nd place in the NL Central.

The Reds will play the Cubs 3 more games this week before returning home to face the Brewers in a 3 game series this coming weekend.

Game time tonight for the Reds and Cubs at Wrigley Field will be 8:05pm.  Pregame begins at 7:35pm.

Wednesday and Thursday's games will be day games, starting at 2:20pm.
