Congratulations to the Letcher Middle School Lady Eagles!

They won the LCEAA GIrls A Team County Basketball Championship at Letcher County Central HS on Sunday afternoon beating Fleming Neon Middle School.

The Lady Pirates took the runner up spot.

Congrats to all teams Letcher, Fleming Neon, Whitesburg and Cowan on a great tournament and season.

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougar Soccer Team will play Lawrence County  this Tuesday night, October 29 at 7:00pm in a semi-state game and it will be held at Letcher County Central.

It's the opening round game of the KHSAA Girls Soccer Sweet 16 State Tournament.

Admission is $7.00, set by the KHSAA, not the host school.

The winner advancing to play in the Elite 8 in Lexington at Lafayette High School on Saturday, November 2.

Congratulations to Coach Betty Acevedo, Asst. Chris Schulz and the Letcher County Central Lady Cougar Soccer Team on winning the 14th Region Girls Soccer Championship.
 
Congratulations are also in order for Carlie Combs, Meg Raleigh, Kelsey Cornett, and Brittany Buttrey as they were named to the 14th Region All - Tournament Team and to Brooke Kincer as she was selected the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.

The 14th Region Volleyball Tournament gets underway tonight at Powell County High School in Stanton with 2 games.

At 6:00pm Jackson City will take on Knott County Central and Powell County plays Leslie County at 7:30pm

Tuesday night at Powell County,  Hazard battles Wolfe County at 6:00pm and 53rd District Champion the Letcher County Central Cougars will take on Owsley County at 7:30pm.

The Semi-finals will be Wednesday with the championship game on Thursday, all at Powell County in the 14th Region Volleyball Tournament.

Letcher County Central JV Football Team will play Belfry on tonight at 6:00pm at home on LCC Cougar Field.

The LCC Cougar Varsity football team lost at Whitley County Friday night 44-20.

With the loss the Cougars fall to 4-5 on the season and 1-2 in district play.

There is now a 3 way tie for 2nd in the district but depending on this week's games, the Cougars will finish 3rd or 4th and will be on the road for the first round of the playoffs in 2 weeks.

The Cougars will wrap up the regular season with Breathitt County this Friday at home.  It will be senior night for LCC football.  Kick off is set for 7:30pm.

Harlan beat Jenkins 33-0
Breathitt County knocked off Knott County Central 42-20
Betsy Layne beat Shelby Valley 31-6

Congratulations to the Letcher County Central Lady Cougar Soccer Team!

They are the 2013 14th Region Champions after beating Estill County 5-1 in the championship game last night at LCC.

They have now won back to back 14th Region Championships.  

The Lady Cougars are 12-4 and now move on to the Girls Soccer State Tournament.

In the Boys 14th Region Championship game also played at LCC last night,  it was Estill County over defending champion Perry County Central 3-2.    

The Engineers from Irvine will now move on the Boys Soccer State Tournament.

The consolation game will be at 2:00pm with the championship game to follow at 3:30pm.

It's week #10 of high school football and the 4-4 Letcher County Central Cougar Football team is on the road tonight in Williamsburg to take on the 0-8 Whitley County Colonels.

It's the final district game with a lot on the line.

With a Cougar win tonight and a Harlan County win over Perry County Central,  LCC would be playing at home in the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 2009.  

Kickoff for the Cougars and Colonels is set for 7:30pm tonight.

The UK Wildcats came up short against Mississippi State last night on the road in Starkville in the special Thursday night game.

The final was 28-22 and the Cats are now 1-6 on the season and 0-4 in the SEC.

They will step out of conference for their next game on Saturday November 2nd against Alabama State at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington.

Kickoff will be at 7:30pm.

The 2013 Girls LCEAA Middle School A Team County Basketball Tournament gets underway on Thursday.

The two games on Thursday at Letcher Middle School Gym will be at 6:00pm Fleming Neon against Cowan then Letcher takes on Whitesburg at 7:30pm.

The Consolation and Championship game will be Sunday at Letcher County Central High School Gym.

The consolation game will be at 2:00pm with the championship game at 3:30pm.

Good luck to all 4 girls county teams.

The girls 14th Region Soccer Tournament began last night at Letcher County Central.

In the only game Estill County beat Perry County Central 3-1.

Estill County now moves on to face the 53rd District Champion Letcher County Central Lady Cougars in the 14th Region Girls Soccer Championship Game Thursday at 6:00pm at Letcher County Central.  

The Lady Cougars received a bye to the championship game.

Estill County will play Perry County Central in the Boys Soccer 14th Region Championship Game Thursday at 8:00pm also at Letcher County Central.

The LCC Lady Cougars will play the winner of the Jenkins-Knott County Central game at 6:00pm.

It's going to be a busy night in sports across the area with the girls county middle school tournament opening round, boys and girls soccer region tournament finals and the UK wildcats football team in action.

But first, congratulations to Coach Betty Von Caudill and the Letcher County Central Lady Cougar Volleyball team.

They won the 53rd District Championship last night at Knott County Central in Hindman by beating the Knott Central Lady Patriots 3-0.   

The scores were 25-9, 25-10 and 25-11.

It was the 9th straight Volleyball District championship for LCC.

They will now move on to the 14th Region Tournament.

The 2013 season has ended for the Letcher County Central Cougar Boys Soccer team.

They lost 5-0 to Estill County last night in the 14th Region Tournament at Letcher County Central.

Congrats to Coach Joe Roberts and the Cougar Boys Soccer team.

They finish the season at 13-8.

The other game last night had Perry Central shutting out Jackson City 6-0.

Estill County will now play Perry County Central for the 14th Region Championship Thursday at 8:00pm at Letcher County Central.

The girls 14th Region Soccer Tournament gets underway tonight.

Estill County will play Perry County Central tonight at 7:00pm at LCC.

The winner of tonight's game will face the 53rd District Champion Letcher County Central Lady Cougars in the 14th Region Championship Thursday at 6:00pm at Letcher County Central.  

The Lady Cougars received a bye to the championship game.

The Letcher County Central Boys & Girls Cross Country teams competed in the Area 9 Championship Meet Saturday at Harlan County.

Bailey Kincer won the Elementary Race.

Nick Spangler was Runner-up in the Middle School Race.

Kacey Troutt won the Girls JV Race and Blake Watts won the Boys JV Race.

The Varsity Girls placed 2nd behind Harlan Co, and received a Runner-up Trophy.

The Lady Cougars were lead by Seniors Leanna Bryant and Keshia Balthis.

The Boys Team won 1st place overall and received a First place Trophy. The Cougars have been Area 9 Champions 6 years in a row.

The Boys Varsity team was lead by Senior Chase Cates and Junior Trevor Wayne.

The Cougars placed 5 boys in the top ten, Chase Cates and Trevor Wayne led the entire race placing First and Second overall.

The Top Ten in each race received medals.

The 53rd District Volleyball Tournament begins tonight at Knott County Central Gym in Hindman.

Two games will be played this evening.

At 6:00pm the #1 seed Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will take on June Buchanan and around 7:00pm Knott County Central will face Jenkins.  

The Volleyball 53rd District championship game will be Wednesday at 6:00pm also at Knott County Central.

The Letcher County Central Cougar Football team is now 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the district after beating Perry County Central Friday night.

The Cougars will next face the winless Whitley County Colonels on the road this Friday in the final district game.
