In Boys High School basketball across the mountains last night:

The Letcher County Central Cougars won their 3rd game in a row beating Harlan Ind at home 66-61.  Torrell Carter had 38 points to lead the Cougars who next play at June Buchanan tomorrow, Thursday in a district game and then play at Perry County Central Saturday.

Cordia beat Jenkins 70-47 in a 53rd district game.

The Cavalier boys will play Harlan at home Wednesday, Rose Hill at home on Friday and Owsley County at home on Saturday.

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will next play Hazard at home Thursday and it will be senior night for the LCC girls.  We'll bring you the game live here on the Bulldog with pre-game starting at 7.  They Lady Cougars will then play at Knott County Central in a district game on Saturday afternoon.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers will next play at Phelps tomorrow, play a doubleheader at Cordia on Friday and then take on Wolfe County on the road Saturday.

Malik Monk made two 3-pointers and scored eight of his 37 points in overtime to help Kentucky outlast Georgia 90-81 on Tuesday night and end a two-game losing streak.

The 8 Cats were playing without De-Aaron Fox because of illness so Isiah Briscoe stepped up with a double double of 23 points, 11 rebounds along with 8 assists. 

Kentucky is 18-4 overall and 8-1 in the SEC.  They will next visit #24 Florida on Saturday night.  Game time is 8pm with pre-game at 6:30 here on the Bulldog.

The Fleming Neon Pirates won the LCEAA Boys Letcher County A team basketball championship over the weekend.  Fleming Neon beat Whitesburg 39-37 yesterday at LCC in double overtime.  Isaac Lucas hit a last second shot to give the Pirates the championship win.  The Pirates finished the season at a perfect 12-0.  Letcher Middle School beat Cowan for the consolation game win. Congratulations to all teams on a great boys county basketball tournament!

Taylor Murray had her second double-double of the season, but the 25th-ranked Kentucky women’s basketball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end with a 73-67 loss at Missouri on Monday.  The Kentucky women will play again on Thursday when they host No. 4 South Carolina at Memorial Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on the SEC Network.

The UK Wildcats are now ranked at #8 after losing 2 games in a row.  The Cats are 17-4 overall and 7-1 in the SEC.   They will return to SEC play tonight as they take on the Georgia Bulldogs at home in Rupp Arena.  Georgia is 13-8 overall and 4-4 in the SEC.   Tipoff tonight is set for 9:00pm and we'll bring you the game live here on the Bulldog with pre-game starting at 7:30.

Also University of Kentucky Football head coach Mark Stoops officially named assistant coach Matt House defensive coordinator on Monday. He will also continue to serve as the inside linebackers coach for the Cats.

In high school wrestling news, The Ben Fisher Memorial Tournament will be held this Saturday at Martha Jane Potter Elementary Gym at Kona.

Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Belfry, Perry Central, and Letcher County Central will be participating.  Weigh ins are at 9:00 am and wrestling begins at 10:00 am.  Admission $5.00 adults/$3.00 students.

Last night in girls high school basketball across the mountains....

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars knocked off Breathitt County at Jackson 53-41 to imporove to 12-9.  The Lady Cougars will next play Jenkins at home tomorrow, Saturday, JV at 2, varsity at 3:30.  They will take on Wise Central on the road Monday night. 

It was Hazard over Jenkins 75-25 last night.  The Lady Cavaliers play at LCC tomorrow and Perry County Central at home Monday.

The Boys All A State Tournament got underway today in Frankfort with 8 opening round games.  

Newport Central Catholic knocked off 14th Region champ and defending All A state champion Cordia 65-57 yesterday in the All A.

15th Region champion East Ridge lost to Russellville 63-52 and 13th Region champion Pineville was knocked off by Owensboro Catholic 58-23.

There are no mountain teams left in the boys ALL A.  

The quarterfinals will be today with semi-finals on Saturday and championship game Sunday.

Evelyn Akhator scored 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Kentucky women’s basketball team won its fifth straight game by beating Ole Miss 89-57 on Thursday night at Memorial Coliseum.

The UK Women are now 15-6 overall and 6-2 in the SEC.  They return to action on Monday when the Wildcats visit Missouri in Columbia.  Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on the SEC Network.

The KY WildCat men will go out of conference and play in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge this Saturday when they face Kansas.  Tipoff is at 6:15 with pre-game Saturday at 4:30 here on the Bulldog.

In high school wrestling news, The Ben Fisher Memorial Tournament was this Saturday at Martha Jane Potter Elementary Gym at Kona.
Letcher County Central won the tournament beating Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Belfry and Perry Central.

Congratulations to the Harlan Lady Green Dragons they finished Runner Up in the girls All A State Tournament in Frankfort.   Harlan girls lost to Monroe County in the championship game 61-55.  Jordan Brock had 39 points for Harlan in the loss.Paris beat Newport Central Catholic

66-46 to win the boys All A State Tournament on Sunday.

The LCC Cougar boys picked up 2 more wins over the weekend, beating Jenkins 72-32 in a home district game on Friday and then knocking off Powell County on the road 78-70 on Saturday. The 14-7 Cougar boys will next play Harlan at home Tuesday and at June Buchanan on Thursday.

The Jenkins boys lost to LCC on Friday and lost at Red Bird 80-67 on Saturday.  The Cavalier boys will play at June Buchanan tonight and home against Cordia on Tuesday.

The girls All A State Tournament got underway yesterday in Frankfort.

13th Region champ Harlan Ind advances to the quarterfinals with a 51-38 win over 15th region champ Paintsville.

14th Region champion, Leslie County beat KY Country Day 70-20 to move on to the quarterfinals.  

Other games yesterday at the girls All A Murray beat Danville 66-37, Monroe County beat Covington Holy Cross 52-49, it was Trimble County beating Presentation 35-23, West Carter over Owensboro Catholic 58-55, Crittenden County beat Sayre 45-42 in overtime and Nicholas County over Green County 57-54. 

Friday's girs quarterfinals will be Friday.  

Murray plays Monroe County at 8:30am
Trimble County faces West Carter at 10am
Harlan will play Crittenden County at 11:30 Friday morning and Leslie County will play Nicholas County Friday at 1.
