The Letcher County Central Cougar boys basketball team 5 game winning streak has ended with a 75 to 45 district loss on the road against Knott County Central Tuesday night.  Josh Owens led the Cougars with 26 of their 45 points.  Camron Justice led all scorers with 29 for the Patriots.  The Cougars are now 10-7 on the year.  They will next play Pikeville at home this Thursday with JV at 6 and varsity at 7:30.  We'll broadcast that game here on the Bulldog with our Cougar Countdown Pre-game Show starting at 7 from LCC.

In the Boys 14th Region All A Quarterfinals last night Jenkins lost to Lee County 90-59, Hazard beat Jackson City 72-35, Cordia over Buckhorn 63-41 and Leslie County beat June Buchanan 68-46.   The Boys 14th Region All A Semi-finals will be played Thursday night at Perry County Central.  Hazard will play Cordia and Leslie County takes on Lee County.  The winners meet for the championship Saturday at 6:00pm also at Perry County Central.

Tonight the Girls 14th Region All A Quarterfinals will be held with the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers playing at Cordia, Lee County is at Buckhorn, Jackson City at Owsley County and Leslie County at Wolfe County.  

The Girls All A semi-finals and championship game will be this Friday and Saturday at Perry County Central.

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars are 10-5 overall and have won 5 in a row.  Their next game will be at Pikeville against the Lady Panthers tonight with JV at 6 and varsity at 7:30.

Congratulations to Letcher County Central Cheerleaders, Loretta Adams and Callie Baker along with Cross Country-Track Athlete, Chase Cates.  All three will be signing scholarship papers with Union College today at 11:00 a.m. in the Library of Letcher County Central High School.

The UK Wildcats lost to Arkansas in a foul fest on the road in Overtime last night 87-85.  The Cats are now 12-4 overall and 2-1 in the SEC.  They will return home to play Tennessee at Rupp Arena this Saturday.  Tipoff is at 12 noon with pregame at 10:30 Saturday morning here on the Bulldog.  

The Coach Cal Show for this week along with Big Blue Weekly and the Coach Matthew Mitchell Show will all air tonight here on the Bulldog starting at 6:00pm.

It's 5 wins in a row for the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars basketball team.   

They got revenge on an earlier in the season loss to Breathitt County by beating the Lady Bobcats at LCC last night 55-46.  

Courtney Brock led the Cougars with 17 points, Cheyenne Stidham joined her in double figures with 15.  

The Lady Cougars next game will be at Pikeville against the Lady Panthers this Thursday with JV at 6 and varsity at 7:30.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers got off to a great start in the 14th Region All A Tournament as they beat Hazard at home last night 81-67.

Also last night in the Girls 14th Region All A Lee County beat June Buchanan 60-46.

Wednesday's Girls 14th Region All A Quarterfinals will be Jenkins at Cordia, Lee County at Buckhorn, Jackson City at Owsley County and Leslie County at Wolfe County.  

The Girls semi-finals and championship game will be this Friday and Saturday at Perry County Central.

The Boys 14th Region All A also got underway last night with Hazard knocking off Wolfe County 79-54 and Buckhorn beating Owsley County 49-35.

Boys Quarterfinal games are scheduled for tonight and will be Jenkins at Lee County with tipoff at 7:00pm, Leslie County at June Buchanan, Jackson City at Hazard and Buckhorn at Cordia.  

The Boys semi-finals and championship game will be this Thursday and Saturday also at Perry County Central.

The Letcher County Central Cougar Boys have won 5 in a row and will face Knott County Central in Hindman tonight for a district game.  Tipoff for JV is 6 with varsity at 7:30.

At the WYMT Mountain Classic basketball semi-finals played last night at Knott County Central,  Perry County Central beat Lawrence County 67-59 and Hazard outlasted Knott County Central 48-46.

At 5:00pm this afternoon Knott County Central will face Lawrence County in the boys 3rd place game.

Then at 6:30pm this evening, the girls championship game will take place between Magoffin County and Bell County.

Around 8:30pm tonight the boys championship game of the 27th Annual WYMT Mountain Classic will have Hazard battle Perry County Central.

All games are being held at the Morton Combs Athletic Center in Hindman.

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars have won 3 in a row and stand at 8-5 on the year after beating the Harlan Lady Green Dragons on the road last night 53-43.

The Lady Cougars are back home for their 3rd game in 4 days, Saturday afternoon to play East Ridge.  Tipoff is set for 3:30pm at LCC.

The 8-4 Jenkins Lady Cavaliers will next play Jackson City at home tonight at 6:00pm.  They also play Wolfe County at home Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm and will compete in the 14th Region All A next week.

Congratulations to the Hazard Bulldogs they beat Perry County Central Friday night to win the boys championship of the WYMT Mountain Classic at Knott County Central.

The Bulldogs beat the Commodores in overtime 54-52. 

Bell County knocked off Magoffin County 71-42 Friday night to win the first ever girls WYMT Mountain Classic championship.

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars have won 4 in a row after beating East Ridge Saturday afternoon at home 67-30.

The 9-5 Lady Cougars are back in action tonight against Breathitt County at home in a big 14th Region matchup.  

JV begins at 6 with varsity tipoff at 7:30.

The Letcher County Central Cougar Boys have been on a roll also winning 5 in a row.

They beat Jenkins 69-39 for a district win Friday night and then knocked off a good Prestonsburg team at home Saturday 79-67. 

The Cougar boys are back in action Tuesday in a district game at Knott County Central.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers beat Jackson City 74-55 on Friday and Wolfe County on Saturday 101-72 for back to back wins. 

In the Wolfe County game, Sophomore Whitney Creech, became the all time leading scorer in Jenkins Girls basketball history.

The Lady Cavaliers will play this week in the 14th Region All A Tournament. 

They will play Hazard at home tonight at 7:00pm. 

If they win they play at Cordia Wednesday at 7:00pm. 

The Girls 14th Region All A semi-finals and finals will be held this Friday and Saturday at Perry County Central.

The Boys 14th Region All A Tournament also begins this week. 

The Jenkins Cavaliers will play at Lee County Tuesday.

The Cats are traveling today in preparation for a big game at Arkansas Tuesday night.

The WYMT Mountain Classic Basketball Tournament continued Wednesday night at the Morton Combs Athletic Complex in Hindman.

In the girls game of the evening the mountains overall #1 team, Bell County beat Leslie County 67-43.

Bell County will now play Magoffin County for the girls championship at 6:45pm Friday.

In the two boys games at the WYMT Mountain Classic last night,  Knott County Central blasted Middlesboro 71-25 and Hazard edged Jackson City 69-63.

The boy semi-finals are now set for tonight.

At 6:30pm Perry County Central plays Lawrence County and at 8:30pm Hazard takes on Knott County Central.

The championship game for the boys will be Saturday night.  

The WYMT tournament continues each night through Saturday at Knott County Central.

Also in boys action last night:

Prestonsburg beat Pike County Central 64-57 and Breathitt County 71 over Owsley County 37.

The Letcher County Central Cougars will next play Friday night at home in a cross county district matchup against the Jenkins Cavaliers.  We'll bring you that game live on the Bulldog.  Pre-game at 7:00pm with varsity tipoff at 7:30pm.

We'll also bring you the Cougars game against Prestonsburg at home Saturday night.  Once again pre-game at 7 with tipoff at 7:30.

In girls action last night the Lady Cougars of Letcher County Central improve to 7-5 as they got a district win over June Buchanan 63-30.

The Lady Cougars are right back at it tonight with a road game at Harlan City School.  Tipoff is 7:30 for the varsity.

The 8-4 Jenkins Lady Cavaliers will next play Jackson City at home this Friday at 6:00pm.  They also play Wolfe County at home Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm and will compete in the 14th Region All A next week.

The UK Wildcats overcame a 12-2 defecit to begin the game, to knock off Mississippi State by 22, 85-63, in the first SEC game of the season last night at Rupp Arena.   

James Young led the Cats with a double double of 26 points and 10 rebounds.
