LCC TRACK AT STATE

Class 2A Region 7 champions, the Letcher County Central Boys and Girls Track Teams will compete Today in the KHSAA State Track and Field Championships at the UK Outdoor Track Complex in Lexington.  


14TH REGION BASEBALL/SOFTBALL TOURNAMENTS

53rd District Tournament champion, the Knott County Central Patriots and Runner up, the Letcher County Central Cougars will both play in the 14th Region Baseball Tournament starting Monday at Buckhorn.  

The draw for the 8 team bracket will be Sunday at 1:00pm.

In softball, 53rd District Tournament champion, the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers and Runner up, the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will both play in the 14th Region Softball Tournament starting Monday at Letcher County Central.

The draw for the 8 team bracket will be Saturday at 11:00am.

REDS BASEBALL

The Cincinnati Reds are in 3rd place, 5.5 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central.  They trail 2nd place St. Louis by 4 games.  The Reds and Cardinals will play 3 this weekend at Great American Ballpark.  Game times are tonight at 7:10.  7:15 on Saturday and 8:05 on Sunday night.  They begin a west coast swing Monday in LA against the Dodgers.  You can catch all Reds baseball games on AM 920 WTCW.

KNOTT COUNTY CENTRAL 53RD DISTRICT BASEBALL CHAMPIONS

The Knott County Central Patriots have won their first 53rd District Baseball Tournament title since 2011 as they beat the Letcher County Central Cougars 4-3 last night at LCC in the championship game.  LCC trailed most of the game but the Cougars Dakota Yonts hit a 2 RBI double in the top of the 7th to tie the game up at 3 all but then Knott Central's Nick Johnson delived a bases loaded RBI single in the bottom of the 7th to give the Patriots the win in a hard fought game by both teams.
Austyn Turner from Knott Central was named the tournament MVP.  Both teams will advance to next week's 14th Region Tournament at Buckhorn starting on Monday.

Letcher County Central and Jenkins will both play in the 14th Region Softball Tournament starting Monday at Letcher County Central.

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL 53RD DISTRICT TOURNAMENTS

The 2014 Boys Baseball and Girls Softball High School District Tournaments got underway on Monday.

The girls are playing at Knott County Central in Hindman.  In game 1 Jenkins blanked Cordia 21-0 in 3 innings.  Game 2 Letcher County Central knocked off Knott County Central 10-2.  

That sets up the Softball 53rd District Championship game tonight as the Jenkins Cavaliers will take on the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars at Knott Central.  Game time is 6:00pm.

Both teams will advance to the 14th Region Tournament next week at LCC.

The boys are playing the 53rd District Tournament at Letcher County Central but it's being hosted by Jenkins.  Last night was the 4/5 seed play in game.  Coty Wright pitched a no hitter for Jenkins as the Cavaliers shut out June Buchanan 19-0.   

Jenkins will now play Knott County Central in one semi-final game tonight at 6:00pm.  The other game tonight around 8:00pm will be Letcher County Central against Cordia.  

Tonight's two winner will play for the baseball District championship Wednesday night at 7:00pm at LCC.

We'll broadcast that game live here on the Bulldog.

TWO LCC STUDENTS ATHLETES SIGN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PAPERS

Letcher County Central's Josh Owens will sign scholarship papers to play basketball at Alice Lloyd College.  His signing will be this Wednesday, May 21, at 11:00am in the LCC Auditorium.

Also Willie Smith will be signing scholarship papers to join the Track and Field team at The University of Pikeville(UPike).   His signing will also be this Wednesday, May 21 at 11:30am in the LCC Auditorium.

LETCHER COUNTY YOUNG GUNS PLACED 2ND

The Letcher Co Young Guns Little League team played in the Trooper Island Baseball Tournament in Harlan this past weekend. They beat Harlan,Fleming Neon and Knox County to finish 2nd in the Tournament.

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL 53RD DISTRICT TOURNAMENTS

Congratulations to the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers!  They are the 2014 53rd District Tournament Champions.   They beat Letcher County Central 12-2 in 5 innings last night at Knott County Central in Hindman to claim their 3rd victory over LCC this year and claim yet another district championship.  Both teams will advance to the 14th Region Tournament to be held at Letcher County Central next week.  

The Boys 53rd District Tournament Championship game is now set between Letcher County Central and Knott County Central.  The championship game gets underway tonight at 7:00pm and will be played  at Letcher County Central and is being hosted by Jenkins.   We'll bring you tonight game here on the Bulldog with pre-game around 6:45pm.

Last night in the semi-finals Knott County Central beat Jenkins and Letcher County Central knocked off Cordia 13-3.

The Boys 14th Region Tournament will be next week at Buckhorn.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

The Letcher County Central Cougar baseball team wrapped up the season Saturday at 22-12 overall.   The Cougars Senior night game on Friday against Lawrence County was rained out.  On Saturday morning the Cougars went to Belfry and lost 12-8 but then returned home for Senior night against Harlan County and won in an exciting game 4-3.  

Jenkins warpped up their regular season at 2-16.   

The 2014 baseball 53rd District Tournament begins tonight at Letcher County Central but is being hosted by Jenkins.

There's one game tonight in the district tournament.  It's the play in game between 4 and 5 seeds Jenkins and June Buchanan.  The winner will play #1 seed Knott County Central at 6:00pm Tuesday.   Also Tuesday at 8:00pm #2 seed Letcher County Central plays #3 seed Cordia.     

The championship game will be Wednesday at 7:00pm at LCC and we'll air that game live here on the Bulldog.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

In softball,  the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars finish the regular season at 17-14.  

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers beat Harlan Friday 4-2 to finish at 25-4 overall.

The softball 53rd District Tournament begins tonight at Knott County Central.

There are 2 games tonight with game one at 6:00pm featuring Jenkins and Cordia then around 7:30pm Letcher County Central plays Knott County Central.

The 2 winners will meet for the District Championship Tuesday night also at Knott Central in Hindman.

STATE TRACK MEET


Class 2A Region 7 champions, the Letcher County Central Boys and Girls Track Teams will compete this Friday May 23 in the KHSAA State Track and Field Championships at the UK Outdoor Track Complex in Lexington.

CINCINNATI REDS BASEBALL

The Reds lost 2 of 3 on the road over the weekend to the Philadelphia Phillies.   They won Friday 3-0 but lost Saturday 12-1 and 8-3 on Sunday.   The Reds are now 19-23 on the season, in 3rd place and 7 games back of Milwaukee in the NL Central.  

They will continue this 2 city 6 game road trip starting tonight with 3 in Washington against the Nationals.  Game time tonight for the Reds and Nationals is 7:05 with pre-game on AM 920 at 6:35.
