After last night's boys & girls 53rd disrict basketball tournament doubleheader at Knott County Central, the district championship games are now set for Friday.  

In game one, #1 seed,. the Knott Country Central girls beat June Buchanan 80-24 and in game two, it was the boys #1 seed, Knott County Central over Jenkins 100 to 56.

So this Friday night at 6pm the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will battle Knott County Central for the girls district championship game followed by the boys championship game Friday night around 8pm between the Letcher County Centrtal Cougar boys and Knott County Central.  Again both games on Friday will be at Knott County Central and can be heard live here on 103.9 The Bulldog with pre-game starting at 5:30.

Also last night in the boys 54th district Buckhorn beat Hazard 58-47.  Buckhorn will play Perry County Central for the boys district title on Friday at PCC at 7pm.

The 55th district boys championship game will also be Friday when Wolfe County takes on Breathitt County at Campton at 7. 

The 56th district tournament boys championship game will be Friday at 7 when Powell County plays at Estill County.

The girls 54th district championship game will be tonight when Leslie County plays at Perry County Central at 7pm.,  also tonight the 55th district girls championship game with Breathitt County at Wolfe County and then the 56th girls tournament championship game will be tonight with Owsley County laying at Estill County. 

.Next week is the 14th Region Tournaments will ber held at Hazard's Memorial Gym for the girls and at the Woods Colisueum in Jackson for the boys. 

The No. 11 Kentucky Wildcats will take on No. 13 Florida in Lexington this Saturday in a big rematch.  Florida beat KY 88-66 on Feb 4th in Gainsville. 

KY and Florida will tip off at 2pm Saturday afternoon with pre-game starting at 12:30.

2 more games were played in the 53rd District Tournament last night at the Morton Combs Athletic Complex in Hindman and both featured wins by Letcher County Central.

In game one, the LCC Lady Cougars held off the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers 44-34 to advance to Friday's girls championship game.  Jenkins ends their season at 5-26.

In game 2 of the evening, after splitting the regular season games, the LCC Cougar boys beat Cordia 66-57 to move on to the district championship game on Friday.  The Cordia Lions finish the year at 13-11.

Two more 53rd district semi-final games will be played tonight in Hindman.  Game one will be girls action as #1 seed Knott County Central will play #4 seed June Buchanan.  In game 2, it's the boys as #1 seed Knott County Central faces #5 seed, the Jenkins Cavaliers.  Tonight's 2 winners will also advance to the district tournament championship games on Friday.  We'll bring you both championship games live Friday night here on the Bulldog with pre-game starting at 5:30.

In the boys 54th district semi-finals last night Perry County Central beat Leslie County 60-33, in the boys 55th district semi's Breathitt County over Riverside 79-37 and Wolfe County over Jackson City 74-53,  in the boys 56th district it was Estill County over Owsley County 52-39 and Powell County beating Lee County 100-61.  No girls games were played last night in the 54th, 55th and 56th districts.

In the girls no games will be playe in the 54th, 55th or 56th but in the 53rd June Buchanan will face Knott County Central.

All boys and girls district championship games will be played Thursday and Friday.

Next week is the 14th Region Tournaments being held at Hazard's Memorial Gym for the girls and at the Woods Colisueum in Jackson for the boys. 

Bam Adebayo's fourth double-double of the season helped No. 11 Kentucky avoid a late-season upset, as he scored 22 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds in the Wildcats' 72-62 victory over Missouri on the road Tuesday night.  The Cats improve to 23-5 overall and 13-2 in the SEC. 

The Wildcats remain tied with No. 13 Florida for first place in the SEC and will face the Gators in Lexington this Saturday in a big rematch.  Florida beat KY 88-66 on Feb 4th in Gainsville.

The boys and girls 53rd District basketball Tournaments begin tonight at the Morton Combs Athletic Complete at Knott County Central in Hindman.

Tonight's 2 play in games will be girls #5 seed Cordia taking on #4 seed June Buchanan at 6pm.  The winner will play #1 seed Knott County Central on Wednesday at 6pm.

Game 2 tonight at 8pm will be boys #5 seed Jenkins against #4 seed June Buchanan.  The winner will play #1 seed Knott County Central at 8pm Wednesday. 

Both Letcher County Central teams will be in action Tuesday.
At 6pm The #2 seed Letcher County Central Lady Cougars will play #3 seed Jenkins and at 8pm Tuesday #3 seed Letcher County Central Cougar boys will play #2 seed Cordia.

We'll bring you both Letcher County Central games on Tuesday in the district tournament.  Pre-game will start at 5:30 here on the Bulldog.

De-Aaron Fox scored 16 points, including six free throws in the final 45 seconds, and No. 13 Kentucky overcame J.J. Frazier's 36 points to beat Georgia 82-77 on Saturday night on the road.  Malik Monk also had 16 for the Cats who are now 22-5 overall and 12-2 in the SEC. 

Up next KY will visit Missouri Tuesday night for  a 9pm tipoff.

Senior Evelyn Akhator scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Kentucky women’s basketball team beat Florida 67-48 on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Coliseum.

Sophomore Maci Morris had 15 points, scoring in double figures for the seventh time in the last eight games. Senior Makayla Epps was the third Wildcat in double figures, scoring 14 points.

The UK Women are now 19-8 overall and 10-4 in the SEC.  They will return to action Thursday when they play Mississippi State at home.

The high school basketball postseason began last night across KY and here in the mountains as district tournament action got underway.

There were 2 games in the 53rd District Tournament last night at the Morton Combs Athletic Complex in Hindman. 

In girls action #4 seed June Buchanan beat #5 seed Cordia 52-19.  JBS will advance to play #1 seed the Knott County Central girls at 6pm Wednesday.

In boys action, #5 seed, the Jenkins Cavaliers beat the #4 seed June Buchanan 73 to 68.  Jenkins boys will face #1 seed Knott County central Wednesday night at 8pm. 

Tonight in the 53rd district tournmanent both Letcher County Central boys and girls will be playing.   At 6pm, The #2 seed LCC Lady Cougars will take on Jenkins followed by the #3 seed LCC Cougar boys take on #2 seed Cordia.  We'll bring you both LCC games tonight in the district tournament with pre-game starting at 5:30 here on the Bulldog and streaming live around the world.  

The 53rd district tournament championship games will be Friday with girls at 6pm followed by boys around 8pm.  All games are being played at Knott Central HS in Hindman.

Tonight in 14th region boys district tournament play besides Cordia and LCC in the 53rd, Leslie County will play Perry County Central in the 54th, Jackson City takes on Wolfe County and Breathitt County is at Riverside in the 55th, In the 56th Powell County faces Lee County and Estill County will host Owsley County.

The UK Wildcats are 22-5 overall and 12-2 in the SEC and they will visit Missouri tonight for a 9pm tipoff.  Missouri is 7 and 19 overall and 2-12 in the SEC.  We'll join the UK game against Missouri tonight after our coverage of Letcher County Central boys and girls in the district tournament.

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars knocked off Allen Central at home last night 71-48.  The Lady Cougars were led in scoring by Sophomore Emma Maggard with 26 points and 18 rebounds. Senior Destiny Hall added 22 points and 7 rebounds.  The LCC girls will wrap up their regular season Frdiay at home against Belfry.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers will also wrap up their regular season Friday at Betsy Layne.
