Local Sports Monday March 20, 2017

Congratulation to the Bowling Green High School Purples.  They beat Cooper High School 67-56 yesterday afternoon at Rupp Arena to win the 2017 Whitaker Bank KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 State Tournament.

In High School Softball over the weekend:

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars split 2 games at Belfry on Saturday.  They lost to Henry Clay 18-2 in 5 innings and beat Belfry 9-6.   The Lady Cougars will next play at Harlan County this Thursday at 6pm. 

The 0-2 Jenkins Lady Cavaliers will next play at East Ridge today at 6pm and at Knott County Central Tuesday at 6pm.

In baseball, the Letcher County Central Cougars are 0-3 after losing to Pikeville 15-4 in 6 innings on Saturday.

The Cougars will play at 1-1 Jenkins today at 5:30pm and at Harlan Ind. Thursday at 6. 

The Jenkins Cavaliers will host Letcher County Central today then play at Shelby Valley Tuesday at 6. 

Bam Adebayo had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead 31-5 and second-seeded Kentucky past No. 10 seed Wichita State 65-62 and into its sixth Sweet 16 under Coach Cal.
The Cats will now move on to Memphis for the Sweet 16 and will take on #3 seed UCLA Friday night.  The Bruins beat KY 97-92 at Rupp Arena back in December.  The Cats game against UCLA will tipoff around 9:40pm Friday.  Pre-game begins at 8pm right here on 103-9TheBulldog.

The Fourth-seeded Kentucky women rallied from a 19-point second half deficit to within one point of the lead, but the Wildcats could not overcome fifth-seeded Ohio State’s advantage, as the Buckeyes won 82-68 on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Coliseum ending the UK Women's season at 22-11.
