BASEBALL STATE TOURNAMENT FINAL FOUR

The baseball State Tournament semi-finals are now set and only one mountain team is left, that being 13th Region champion, the South Laurel Cardinals.

On Thursday afternoon, 14th Region Champs, the Hazard Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker 1-0 in 10 innings to Simon Kenton in the completion of the suspended game from the night before.

In the 2nd game of the afternoon yesterday South Laurel advances to the final four with a 4 to 1 win over South Warren.

Last night, North Bullitt held off Conner 4-3 and St. X ended the season for 15th Region Champion Johnson Central 6-3.

The semi-finals tonight at Whitaker Bank Ball Park in Lexington will have South Laurel playing Simon Kenton at 6:00pm and North Bullitt will take on St. X around 8:30pm.

The Championship game will be Saturday night at 7.


SOFTBALL STATE TOURNAMENT BEGINS

The Girls double elimination Softball State Tournament began yesterday in Owensboro at Fisher Park.  

15th Region winner Johnson Central lost to Anderson County 9-1, Highlands beat 14th Region champ Estill County 4-1 and South Laurel from the 13th Region won over George Rogers Clark 5-2.

In the winner's bracket, South Laurel will take on Scott County at 9:00am this morning.  

In the last chance or loser's bracket today, Johnson Central will go against Ashland Blazer at 11am this morning and Estill County will face Green County also at 11am.

The Girls Softball State Tournament wraps up on Saturday.
 

REDS LOSE 2 IN A ROW AND HAVE THE PHILLIES THIS WEEKEND

he Reds lost the rubber match yesterday to the Giants in their 3 game series.  The final was 6-1.   With back to back losses the Reds are now 27-31, 7.5 games behind Milwaukee in 4th place in the NL Central.  The Reds continue their 10 game home stand, the longest of the season, as they welcome in the Philadelphia Phillies for 3 this weekend.  The Reds and Phillies play tonight at 7:10, Saturday at 4:10 and Sunday at 1:10.  The Reds will play 4 against the Dodgers at home starting Monday.  Catch all Reds games on AM 920 WTCW.
