ALL 3 MOUNTAIN TEAMS STILL PLAYING IN THE BASEBALL STATE TOURNAMENT

All 3 mountain teams are still alive in the Rawlings/KHSAA Baseball State Tournament.   Last night at Whitaker Bank Ball Park in Lexington, 15th Region Champion, the Johnson Central Golden Eagles upset the #1 team in the state, Tates Creek, 8-4 to move to the quarterfinal round.   Other winners on Tuesday in opening round games...North Bullitt got by E-town 6-5, Conner blew out Boyd County 12-0 and it was St. X over Union County 2-1.

The Quarterfinals will be today and Thursday.   This evening at 6:00pm, 14th Region Champion, the Hazard Bulldogs, will face Simon Kenton and then 13th Region Champion, the South Laurel Cardinals will battle South Warren around 8:30.

Tomorrow evening at 6:00pm Connor plays North Bullitt and Johnson Central will tangle with St. X.

The semi-finals will be Friday evening and the Championship game will be Saturay at 7 for the baseball State Tournament.

SOFTBALL STATE TOURNAMENT BEGINS THURSDAY IN OWENSBORO

Estill County, South Laurel and Johnson Central will be representing the mountains starting Thursday in the Worth/KHSAA Softball State Tournament at Fischer Park in Owensboro.

The tournament is double elimination with 15th Region Champion Johnson Central facing Anderson County Thursday at 5:00pm, 14th Region Champion Estill County will take on Highlands at 7:00pm Thursday and 13th Region Champion South Laurel will meet George Rogers Clark also at 7:00pm on Thursday.   The softball State Tournament goes through Saturday in Owensboro.

REDS MAKING A MOVE IN THE NL CENTRAL

The Reds have won 4 in a row and 5 of 6 and sit 6.5 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central.   They are tied with Pittsburgh for 3rd place.  Game 2 of 3 against the Giants at home will be tonight at 7:10pm,  Pre-game at 6:40.   The Reds and Giants will wrap up the series with a day game on Thursday at 12:35pm.
