Congratulations to the Belfry Pirates and coach Phillip Haywood for winning their 4th KHSAA high school football state title.

The Pirates beat previously unbeaten Wayne County 3-0 on a wintry Friday afternoon in Bowling Green.  

It was the Pirates first title since 2004 and they finish the season at 14-1.  That one loss coming to Johnson Central.

In the other state championship games in Bowling Green Friday, Saturday and Sunday:

Class A Mayfield 42 Williamsburg 0
Class 2A DeSales 34 Newport Central Catholic 26
Class 4A Collins beat Highlands 37-34
Class 5A Bowling Green 49 Pulaski County 14
and in 6A Scott County outlasted Meade County 21-14.

In high school basketball over the weekend,  the Letcher County Central Cougar Boys lost to Corbin 66-50 in the Big Red Shootout held at Clay County in Manchester.  

The 1-2 Cougar Boys will next play Phelps at home this Thursday.  We'll broadcast that game live here on the Bulldog.

The Jenkins Cavalier Boys lost to Jackson City Friday night on the road 71-42.

The 0-2 Cavaliers will play June Buchanan in their home opener tonight.  It's a district game starting at 7:30.

and Shelby Valley beat Lee County 91-56.

Shelby Valley is at Hazard tonight  and Knott County Central is at Cordia on Tuesday night.

In Girls High School Basketball,  The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars won their first game of the season beating Jackson City on the road 67-56.

The 1-1 Lady Cougars will be on the road tonight to face Betsy Lane at 8:00pm.

The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers are 3-0 now after beating Cordia 79-24 Friday and South Floyd 82-28 on Saturday.  The Lady Cavs play June Buchanan at home tonight at 6:00pm in a district game and part of a boys/girls doubleheader.

Also Saturday Knott County Central beat Sheldon Clark 47-42.

Tonight on the Bulldog, it's the Coach Cal Radio Show at 6:00pm followed by Big Blue Weekly with Neil Price at 7:00pm.

The 8-2 Wildcats will next play Tuesday night in Rupp Arena against Boise State.  Game time is 9:00pm with pregame at 7:30pm on 103.9 The Bulldog.  

The Cats will play North Carolina at Chapel Hill this Saturday.

The unbeaten UK Women's basketball team, fresh off the 4 OT win over Baylor Friday will take on Depaul Thursday night in Chicago.
