The Letcher County Central Cougar boys played the season opening game last night at home against Harlan County.

The Black Bears beat the Cougars 61-57.

The Cougars were up by 2 at halftime but were outscored 21-12 in the 4th quarter.

The Cougars were led in scoring with 23 from Chippy Frazier.

Josh Owens added 12, Jordan Gregory 10 and Tyler Collins had 8.

Harlan County's Zack Caldwell had 17.

The LCC Boys will next play Jackson City at home Thursday night and we'll bring you the game live here on the Bulldog with pregame starting at 7.  

Varsity tipoff is at 7:30.

Also in an early season 53rd District Matchup Knott County Central, ranked #6 in the state, beat Jenkins 93-25.

Knott Central Junior and Tennessee signee Camron Justice scored 27 points to move him over 2,000 points in his high school career.  

Jenkins was led by Randy Potter with 10.

The Cavalier boys will next play at Jackson City Friday night at 6:00pm.

Also last night in boys high school basketball:
Hazard beat Estill County 71-41
Buckhorn knocked off Owsley County 56-30
Leslie County 64 Powell County 61
and Perry County Central knocked off Breathitt County 74-52.

In girls basketball last night the Jenkins Lady Cavaliers began the new season with a nice win over J.I. Burton of Wise County on the road.
The final was 85-30.  

The Lady Cavaliers will next take on Cordia in a district game Friday night in their home opener.  
Gametime is 6:00pm.

The LCC Lady Cougars home opener scheduled for Saturday against Scott County has been postponed and has been rescheduled for January 20th.

The Lady Cougars next game will be on the road at Jackson City Friday night.  Varsity only with tipoff at 8:00pm.

The girls home opener will be Friday December 13th against Jenkins.

One other girls high school basketball game last night had #16 Perry County Central beating Middlesboro 65-42.

The Lady Commodores were led by Miss Kentucky candidate Kayla Rankin who had 42 points and 30 rebounds.

LCC Cougar Wrestling will compete with Pike Central and other teams @ North Point Academy in Pike County this Saturday at 1:00pm.

The #3 UK Basketball Cats are now 7-1 and their next game will be at AT & T Stadium in Arlington Texas this Friday night against Baylor.   Game time is 10:00pm with pregame at 8:30pm here on the Bulldog.

The game is part of a UK-Baylor mens/womens  doubleheader.   The women's game will be first at 7:30pm.  The UK Women are ranked #7 and unbeaten at 8-0.
