The Letcher County Central Cougar football team had 413 yards of total offense and a great team defensive effort to get a 47-0 shutout win over the Berea Pirates in the season opener on Friday night.  

The Cougars showed a nice mix of run and pass on offense to get Mike Holcomb his first win as Cougar head coach.  

Jaylyn Williams had 4 TD's, including a punt return for a touchdown and 2 in the air, one was the highlight of the game, featuring a spectacular one handed grab that went for a 75 yard score.

Junior QB Zane Blair was 9 of 15 through the air for 256 and 3 TD's, two to Jaylyn Williams and another strike of 64 yards to Devin Wright.   

The Cougars led 14-0 after the 1st quarter and 28-0 at halftime.   

The 1-0 Cougars will stay home this Friday as they welcome McCreary Central for  a 7:30 kickoff at LCC.

The Jenkins Cavaliers and Coach Joe Colwell are also off to a nice start outlasting Phelps on the road Friday night for the 36-34 win.  

The Cavaliers will face Allen Central in their home opener this Friday with kickoff at 7:30pm.

In soccer, the Letcher County Central Cougar Boys are 1-1 after getting a nice 1-0 shutout victory at South Laurel on Saturday.

They next play on the road at Jackson City Tuesday at 7:30pm.

The LCC Lady Cougar Girls soccer team is 2-0 and will face Bell County on the road in their next game Tuesday at 6:00pm.


The Letcher County Central Volleyball team is now 3-3 on the year after winning 2 and losing 3 over the weekend in the Champions of the Mountains Classic at Pikeville.

The beat Paintsville and Corbin but lost to Pikeville, Rowan County and Hazard.

The Lady Cougar Volleyball team will take on Betsy Layne in their next match at home Tuesday at 7:30pm.


Matt Kenseth held off Kasey Khane to win the Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday night.

Kyle Busch won the Truck  and Nationwide Races this weekend at BMS.


The Reds lost 2 of 3 games over the weekend in a home series against the Milwaukee Brewers including a 3-1 loss on Sunday afternoon.  

The Reds remain 2.5 games behind Pittsburgh and St. Louis.   The Cardinals and Pirates are now tied for the lead in the NL Central.

The Reds hit the road for a 2 city 6 game road swing including 3 games against the Cardinals in St. Louis to start the week,  a day off on Thursday and then 3 against the Rockies this upcoming weekend.

Game one for the Reds and Cardinals is tonight and first pitch is set for 7:05pm.  Pre-game on WTCW-AM 920 will be at 6:35pm.  


The UK Wildcats will begin the Mark Stoops Era this Saturday August 31st as they will battle the Western KY Hilltoppers at LP Field in Nashville.

Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.  Pregame will begin here on the Bulldog at 5:30pm.
