No Charges in Connection to Fatal Car Accident

Kentucky State Police say they do not expect to file any charges in connection to the accident that killed 8-year-old Breanna Hall last week. Troopers say Breanna’s family’s car stopped to make a left turn when it was rear-ended and sent into the path of a coal truck. Investigators say the driver of the pickup tried to stop, but the roads were wet and were a contributing factor to the accident.

 

 

No Cellphones in Jenkins Independent School System

Officials with the Jenkins Independent School System added a new rule to the student handbook for the coming school year. In the past, students in middle and high school were allowed to use their phones to do research. However, each student will be assigned a Google Chrome book this year. Therefore, they will not need a phone in the classroom.

 

 

Two Arrested in Whitley County for Homicide

Two people were arrested on Sunday (July 23) in connection with a homicide in Whitley County. Kentucky State Police say Michelle Marlow was found dead, lying in the middle of Mud Creek Road. Chris Lowe and Lori Mattie were found at a home nearby, both with blood on them that they could not explain. Witnesses say they saw the pair beating the victim with a stick, before Lowe dragged Marlow into the street. They are both charged with murder.

 

 

Elderly Bracken County Man Missing

Search crews in Bracken County have been looking for an elderly man who went missing due to floods in Northern Kentucky. Delmar Nicholson (82 years old) was reported missing on Sunday after his family discovered that floodwaters had swept away his mobile home. Crews have been searching the area of Bracken Creek.

 

 

Contract to Bring Pikeville Nurse Practitioners into Schools

Pike County Board of Education members agreed last night to make a contract with Pikeville Medical Center to bring nurse practitioners into the schools. District officials say it will help to keep students and staff healthy.
