Conn Could Face New Charges

Eric C. Conn has been on the run for more than two weeks, after he removed an electronic monitoring bracelet while on house arrest, and prosecutors say that Conn could face new charges in connection with his disappearance, because he is suspected of taking a car without permission. According to a warrant issued in Floyd County last week, the mother of Conn’s daughter reported that the wanted man took a car from her; he now faces a theft charge. 

 

 

Harlan County Teen Diagnosed with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

A Harlan County teen has been diagnosed with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Apparently, there were two ticks on him, which are the carriers of the bacterial infection. His mother, Sandy Melton, tells WYMT that she and her two sons left for vacation earlier this month; on the same day that they left, her son found the two ticks on himself. The teen was misdiagnosed more than once while traveling, before he was admitted to a hospital in New York City for treatment. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that the tick-born bacterial infection can be fatal. The teen has been released from the hospital, but is still undergoing treatment. 

 

 

Fleming-Neon Received Grant

The city of Fleming-Neon has received an Area Development Fund Grant to help upgrade the wheelchair access ramp at City Hall. The 13-hundred dollar grant will help pay for the improvements to the ramp, which does not currently meet the standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act. 

 

Items Stolen from Church in Perry County

Several items were stolen from the Church of the Living God on old Highway 80 in Perry County. The break-in was reported Sunday morning. Deputies say three guitars, a prayer box, a piano seat, and a picture of the 10 Commandments are all missing. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office. 

 

 

Harlan Man Faces Charges

A 56-year-old Harlan man faces endangerment and animal cruelty charges after he supposedly tried to force his way into a home last week, kicking a dog during this attempt. Police say that a surveillance video shows the incident, which happened on June 12th. Wilbern Madon Junior head butted another man and threatened him with a pipe. Then, the suspect forced his way into a home and allegedly assaulted a woman inside, kicking the victim’s dog as he went into the house.
