Senator Rand Paul at Shooting on Baseball Field in Alexandria Virginia

June 15, 2017

Kentucky U.S. Senator Rand Paul was standing in a batting cage, practicing his swing, when the sound of gun shots pierced the early morning quiet at a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia yesterday (June 14). The Senator was with other legislators practicing for a charity baseball game that was scheduled for today (June 15). Paul says he was in the batting cage beyond the right field fence, and bullets were hitting the dirt of the outfield warning track. He says he saw House Majority Whip Steve Scalise get shot in the leg. The Senator says Capitol and Alexandria police saved everyone's life, and it would have been a "massacre" without them. Scalise was last reported to be in critical condition. Two capitol police officers were injured. The shooter died at the scene.
