A new ad from an independent political group is giving voters a peek of the unrelenting barrage of negative ads linking likely Democratic Senate nominee Alison Lundergan Grimes with the as-unpopular-as-ever the President. The ad - which cost $552,000 - began running on Friday and will continue through Kentucky's May 20 primaries. It is paid for by the Kentuckians for Strong Leadership, an independent political action committee run by Scott Jennings, a former adviser to President George W. Bush.

Highland Mine complex near Henderson is being idled while repairs are made to a preparation plant damaged by a structural failure last week. Patriot Coal announced Monday that the complex was stopping all coal production and expects full production to be restored by June 30. limited production may resume earlier when sufficient repairs have been made to the preparation plant to resume partial coal processing operations. More than 500 people work at the complex at full operation.

The Whitley County coroner says 26-year-old Robert Young drowned about 8 p.m. Sunday at the Laurel Lake Spillway. Rescue crews believe Young was swimming with a friend when he tried to swim out to a buoy. He was last seen about 200 feet from shore, where the water is more than 60 feet deep. When he didn't make it back to the beach, divers searched the water for five hours. They finally found his body around 1 a.m. Monday.

Hundreds of Kentucky bikers are honoring one of their own that was killed in a crash last week in Laurel County. Randolph Scott, 71, was died after the crash Wednesday night on Highway 25, north of London.Investigators say a car pulled out from Hazel Patch Road onto southbound U.S. 25 in front of a Harley Davidson motorcycle heading northbound. Scott was thrown from his bike. He died Wednesday night. Scott was from Lexington.
