Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell says he raised more than $1 million in the month before the GOP primary. McConnell's campaign announced Thursday it raised over a million in April. Kentucky's Republican Senate primary is May 20. McConnell will face Louisville businessman Matt Bevin, who lags McConnell in fundraising and public polling. But McConnell's overall cash balance did not increase much. The Republican Senate leader's campaign said it still has more than $10 million in cash available, roughly the same amount it had at the end of the first fundraising quarter in March.

An eight-year-old Jenkins boy died Wednesday night from head and chest injuries he suffered in an accident. Police say the accident occurred when Trent Carty lost control of his bicycle while riding down a hill on Williams Street in the Muddtown community of Jenkins. The mishap occurred around 8 p.m. Trent was transported to the Whitesburg hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

State Troopers in Morgan County believe a string of fires were intentionally set.  They say the fires happened at the beginning of the month along Dyer Branch Road. Troopers say a cabin, barn, and abandoned building were set on fire. There's a one thousand dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of arsonist.

Investigators want to find a driver who ran away from the scene of a deadly crash. Laurel County Sheriff's Deputies say a Dodge Neon pulled into the path of a motorcycle on U.S. 25 Wednesday night.  71 year old Randolph Scott was thrown from the bike.  He was flown to UK where he later died. The other driver ran into the woods and hasn't been found.

Former Kentucky first lady Martha Wilkinson, who championed efforts to reduce adult illiteracy and ran a brief campaign to succeed her husband as governor, has died. She was 72. Her husband, Wallace Wilkinson, had an eventful term as governor from 1987 to 1991. Voters approved creation of the Kentucky Lottery, which the Democatic governor had pushed as an alternative to higher taxes, and lawmakers overhauled public schools.
