Kentucky has spent nearly $18 million over the past six years to bus students to private schools, most of which are religious. That's despite the fact that the state constitution prohibits state funds from aiding any "church, sectarian or denominational" school. state financial records show that 8,375 private school students were bused last year using a subsidy of $2.9 million. In addition, many local governments kick in their own funds because the state subsidy does not cover the entire need.

The Woodford County coroner has identified Timmothy Saunders, 51, as the man who was found dead after being dragged behind a vehicle a mile and a half down a highway. Versailles police say someone who was driving on Troy Pike about 6:30 a.m. Sunday spotted the man's body on the side of the road. Police arrested 56-year-old Vernon Saunders. He was arrested and charged with murder.

Middlesboro Police Chief Jeff Sharpe said Saturday the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the cause of the crash at the Middlesboro-Bell County Airport. Sharpe said around 1 p.m. a Beech-Bonanza V-35B crashed and caught on fire. Officers said the pilot received burn injuries, but was conscious and able to talk to first responders at the scene. He was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of six goats after they were found dead alongside a creek in Kite Saturday morning. Owners of a farm in Knott County say what began as a typical Saturday morning quickly took a shocking turn. A family discovered the remains of their six goats early Saturday morning.

The Kentucky Lottery plans a new advertising campaign this summer that focuses on how ticket purchases support college scholarships. The move comes after the General assembly voted last month to remove a prohibition on mentioning scholarships in ads. About $400 million will go toward scholarships over the next two years, but about $81 million will help a variety of other government functions.
