Officials say human remains have been found in Magoffin County, which is near the home of a man who went missing in February.

Police say they received a call Friday about possible remains, and Saturday Kentucky State Police confirmed the remains are human.

On Saturday afternoon police, rescue and K-9 crews returned to the scene in the Johnson Fork area of Magoffin County to further their search.

During that time they located more remains near the premises.

These remains were found in the same area where 29 year old Freddie Brown suddenly went missing in February.

Autopsy results are pending.


Both men who escaped last Tuesday from the Leslie County Detention Center while on work release are back behind bars.

An official with Kentucky River Regional Jail says 27-year-old Adam Warner was brought in late Saturday night.

We are told he was arrested by Kentucky State Police in Knott County.

22-year-old Taylor Brewer was captured Friday, also in Knott County, where they are from.


A man died Saturday morning trying to stop a runaway truck.

It happened around 8 a.m.

Officials say 73 year old Denver Lee Madden was cutting wood on private property when a vehicle began rolling away.

They say Madden tried to stop the truck, and got caught and hit a tree.

The accident was near the Jackson/Owsley County line.

One other person was with Madden at the time of the incident.


A man is dead after an ATV accident in Perry County Friday evening.

Officials say James Smith was driving an ATV one Clear Fork Branch in the Chavies Community.

He was on the roadway when he lost control of his vehicle.

He was taken to Hazard A-R-H where he was pronounced dead.

Police say he was not wearing a helmet.


A climber had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter Saturday afternoon after an accident in Wolfe County.

Officials say it happened around 3:00 p.m. in the Muir Valley area.

A 21 year old man was climbing a route about 70 feet high when he slipped and fell.

A volunteer rescue was immediately notified and he was taken by ambulance to Pine Hill where he was flown to Huntington, West Virginia for treatment.

The extent of the climbers injuries are not known at this time.


On Sunday evening just before 6:00 pm, Deputies with the Knott County Sheriffs office were involved in a shooting in the Mallie Community.

According to police, a male subject opened fire on the Deputies, the Deputies then returned fire injuring him and he was transported to an area hospital where he is now listed in stable condition.

Detectives with the Kentucky State Police in Hazard are investigating.

No names have been released.


Six different police departments teamed up Friday  morning to give some folks in Harlan County an early morning wake-up call.

Police say over 60 indictments were available for various drug trafficking charges.

So far 29 arrests have been made.

Law enforcement officers went out bringing in suspected drug dealers in the Tri-City area.

Those arrested were taken to the Harlan Police Department for processing then off to jail.
