A Sandlick man who was involved in a fatal accident on the Whitesburg Bypass two weeks ago was arrested Friday afternoon.

The Whitesburg Police Department says 30 year old Kelvin Eric Sexton was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of marijuana.

On July 27, Sexton was involved in a fatal traffic accident on the Whitesburg bypass that killed 36 year old Shawn Roark and severely injured a woman riding with Roark, Dorothy Hall Gibson of Premium.

The July 27th accident is still under investigation and charges have not been filed.


A Magoffin County business is a total loss after a fire ripped through the building Saturday night.

Fire crews were called out to Reds Boot Barn in Salyersville around 10:30pm.

Three departments responded to the call but it wasn't enough to save the business.

No one was in the building at the time and no injuries were reported. Investigators are still trying to figure out what may have caused the fire.


The golden alert for missing Knott County man Lawrence Mardis has been cancelled.

49-year-old Mardis has been missing since he walked away from the Golden Years Rest Home in HindmanThursday.

Golden Years officials say he was found in Kenton County in northern Kentucky.

They say he walked into the Saint Elizabeth Hospital emergency room, and that is when authorities were notified.

Mardis was found in good condition.


There was an armed robbery at the Lane Tobacco Store on Main Street in Hazard Thursday night.

Police say it happened around 8:30 pm but they caught the man about a half hour later.

No other info was given.

No one was injured.

The investigation is ongoing.


A Harlan County man is facing charges following a shooting Sunday in Cumberland.

Police say 55 year old Victor Boggs was arguing with his son, 20 year old Kevin Maggard just before 4pm at a home on Boggs Hollow Road.

We're told the argument escalated and Boggs opened fire, shooting Maggard in the foot.

Maggard was taken to Harlan ARH and then flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Tennessee.

We are told his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Boggs is charged with assault and is being held in the Harlan County Detention Center.
