Letcher County Standing Together Summit May 13 & 14

A two-day Planning Summit Meeting called the “Letcher County Standing Together Summit” will be held on Wednesday, May 13, and Thursday, May 14, 2015, at the Letcher County Extension Office, beginning at 9:00 A.M. each day. The purpose of the planning summit is to bring together leaders and workers from all walks of life in Letcher County who are interested in working together to bring about greater things for the county.  The Summit Meeting will be conducted by Dr. Vaughn and Sandy Grisham, of Bakersville, North Carolina. The Grishams are nationally known for their work in Community Development. They are regular presenters at the annual Brushy Fork Institute at Berea College.  Any organization leader or member is encouraged to attend, whether you’re a business, civic, government, church, or other group or individual. You must be registered to attend.  To register call the Letcher County Judge Jim Ward's Office at 633-2129, or Carol Ison at 633-9831. You must be registered by May 6th. Breakfast and lunch will be served and there is no charge for attending this meeting. The meeting is made possible through a grant received by the Cowan Community Action Group, Inc., funded by an ARC Flex-E-Grant through the Kentucky Department for Local Government and administered by Brushy Fork Institute at Berea College.   CCAG is proud to have the Letcher County Fiscal Court Co-Sponsoring the event.

KBC Blood Drive April 30

The Kentucky Blood Center will have a Letcher County blood drive on Thursday April 30th from 12 noon to 6:00pm on the bloodmobile outside Whitesburg Wal-Mart.  Everyone 17 and over and at least 110lbs can donate.  For more info call 800-775-2522.

Lewis & Clark Circus In Jenkins April 30

The Lewis & Clark Circus Under the Big Top is coming to Jenkins on Thursday April 30th at the Kiwanis Mini Park next to Jenkins Middle/High School.  There will be 2 show times of 5:00pm and 7:30pm.  See clowns, acrobats, juggling,goats, horses, camels and more!  Adult tickets are $15.00 at the gate.  Two kids ages 14 and under will be admitted free with a paying adult.  Additional kids tickets will be $5.00 each at the gate.  Adult advance tickets are available at Boggs Pharmacy for $10.00 each and will be sold until 12 noon Thursday April 30th.  Free kids tickets will be available at the schools and some local businesses.  No kids can be left unattended or dropped off.  Come early and enjoy pony and camel rides.  It's being sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Jenkins. 

Benefit Singing In Memory of Lewis Ray Boggs May 2

There will be a benefit singing in memory of Lewis Ray Boggs at 3:00pm on Saturday May 2nd at the Seco Pentecostal Church.  All proceeds will help the family with funeral expenses.  Many different singers will be there and all other singers are invited.  Free refreshments will be served after the singing.  For more info or directions call 633-7244.
