The Letcher County Health Department, in support of World Breastfeeding Week, will have a special event on Thursday August 7th from 5:00-7:00pm at Riverside Park(Walking Track) in Whitesburg. There will be refreshments, games, activities, gifts and prizes. All breast feeding moms from Letcher, Knott and Perry are welcome. It's sponsored by the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program. The Kentucky Blood Center will conduct a Letcher County Community Blood Drive on Thursday July 31st from 12noon-6pm on the KBC Blood Mobile in the Whitesburg Plaza. Each donor is entered to win a trip to Las Vegas, A blue Toyota Corolla Sport or 2 tickets to see Chicago in concert August 13 at Riverbend in Cincinnati. You must be 18 to win. Kentucky State Police Post 13 2014 Trooper Island Tee Off For Kids Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday August 2 at the Hazard Country Club, 380 Cardinal Drive in Hazard. Registration will be at 9:00am with a shotgun start at 9:45am. Players will receive 18 holes, a golf cart and lunch. There will also be prizes, contests and fun. Entry fee is $240.00 per team. Cowan Elementary School will have a Free Giveaway Day on Wednesday July 30th at the school from 10:00am-2:00pm. New backpacks full of supplies will be given out but students must be present to receive them. A craft table will be set up so students can creat a bracelet and tag to personalize their backpack. Whitesburg Middle School will have a Back to School Splash at the Whitesburg Swimming Pool on Monday August 4th from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Food will be served and there will be a prize giveaway for students and parents and teachers will be there. Only WMS Students, Staff and family of students and staff are invited. It's sponsored by the WMS and Youth Services Center.
