The Kentucky Blood Center will have a blood drive on Friday October 31st in the Whitesburg Plaza near Wal-Mart on the KBC blood mobile from 12:00 noon to 6:00pm. For October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, donate during this drive and get a limited edition "I Can Fight Cancer" T-shirt(while supplies last).

The 7th Sons of KY Motorcyle Club will have a benefit bike ride for 5 year old Tyler Wooten, who has been diagnosed with stage 3 lymphoblastic lymphona cancer along with the sudden death of his mother in August. The ride will be rain or shine on Saturday November 1st with sign ups at 11:00am at Pine Mountain Grill. The ride begins at 12:30pm and will go to Perry County Park in Hazard for about a 90 mile round trip. The cost is $10.00 per bike and $5.00 each additional rider. The Cowan Community Center will be hosting two more meetings about the Cowan Community Theater Project. These meetings are to prepare for the Story-Play about Letcher County which will be presented at the Cowan Community Center on Friday, December 5th. The dates for the meetings will be Monday, November 3rd and Tuesday November 4th, beginning both nights at 5:00 with supper with work beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Story-Play Director, Bob Martin, and Mark Kidd will be meeting with us. It is not too late for newcomers to become a part of this because many volunteers and participants are needed to make it a real success. The Battle of Leatherwood Civil War Reenactment will be this Friday, Saturday and Sunday October 24, 25 and 26 at Cornettsville/Leatherwood in Perry County. Friday is education day with lectures and demonstrations. Saturday will feature at 12 noon a Ladies Tea, a battle at 2:00pm and a ball at 7:00pm.
