The 7th Sons of KY Motorcyle Club will have a benefit bike ride for 5 year old Tyler Wooten, who has been diagnosed with stage 3 lymphoblastic lymphona cancer along with the sudden death of his mother in August. The ride will be rain or shine on Saturday November 1st with sign ups at 11:00am at Pine Mountain Grill. The ride begins at 12:30pm and will go to Perry County Park in Hazard for about a 90 mile round trip. The cost is $10.00 per bike and $5.00 each additional rider. The Cowan Community Center will be hosting two more meetings about the Cowan Community Theater Project. These meetings are to prepare for the Story-Play about Letcher County which will be presented at the Cowan Community Center on Friday, December 5th. The dates for the meetings will be Monday, November 3rd and Tuesday November 4th, beginning both nights at 5:00 with supper with work beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Story-Play Director, Bob Martin, and Mark Kidd will be meeting with us. It is not too late for newcomers to become a part of this because many volunteers and participants are needed to make it a real success. On Saturday November 1, the Letcher Eagles Middle School football team will be hosting "Survive The Strain 2014", a Zombie themed scavenger hunt at the Letcher Elementary/Middle School campus. Teams of 3 ranging from 4th through 8th grade will perform a series of missions while avoiding lots of zombies. The cost is $15.00 per team or $2.00 just to walk through the Zombie area. Zombie volunteers are wanted and needed. Team registration will begin at 5:00pm in the school gym and the scramble will begin at dark. A prize of $60.00 will to the winning team that completes all missions in the fastest time with their flags intact. Concessions will also be sold. New Beginnings Assembly of God Church in Jenkins is having a Hall-O-Lujah Night Event on Halloween night from 5:00-8:00pm and it's all free including games, prizes, pumpkin carving, candy, popcorn and crafts. All kids are welcome. The Church is located behind Whitaker Bank in Jenkins.
