The Letcher County Health Department, in support of World Breastfeeding Week, will have a special event on Thursday August 7th from 5:00-7:00pm at Riverside Park(Walking Track) in Whitesburg. There will be refreshments, games, activities, gifts and prizes. All breast feeding moms from Letcher, Knott and Perry are welcome. It's sponsored by the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program. The Kentucky Blood Center will conduct a Letcher County Community Blood Drive on Thursday July 31st from 12noon-6pm on the KBC Blood Mobile in the Whitesburg Plaza. Kentucky State Police Post 13 2014 Trooper Island Tee Off For Kids Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday August 2 at the Hazard Country Club, 380 Cardinal Drive in Hazard. Registration will be at 9:00am with a shotgun start at 9:45am. Players will receive 18 holes, a golf cart and lunch. There will also be prizes, contests and fun. Entry fee is $240.00 per team. Camp Hood featuring former UK basketball player Jon Hood will be held this Thursday & Friday July 24 and 25 at the Knott County Sportsplex. The event will be 9:00am-1:00pm both days and will be for ages 5-18 boys and girls. The cost is $60.00 and for more info call 606-594-0090. Camp includes shooting, free throw competition, passing, ball handling and more. Registration will be Thursday morning July 24 at 8:30am.
There will be a bike ride taking place as a fundraiser for Cowan Boys Basketball this Saturday July 26. Registration begins at Cowan School at 10am, kickstands will go up at 11am. They will ride in KY so helmets are personal preference and the ride will be approx. 100 miles ending back at Cowan School. The price will be $20.00 per bike with all proceeds going to Boys Basketball.
