Indian Summer Folk Art Festival September 30/October 1

The Little Shepherd Ampitheatre at Jenkins will have the Indian Summer Folk Arts Festival on Friday September 30th and Saturday October 1st.  They will also have Gary Stewart Tribute Show on Saturday night October 1st at 7pm at the ampitheatre just off US 23 in Jenkins.  For details call 832-1453.

Letcher County Mountain Crawlers/I Can Services Charity ATV Ride October 8

The Letcher County Mountain Crawlers along with I Can Services, Incorporated will have a charity ATV ride on Saturday October 8th.  Registration begins at 9:00am at Fishpond Lake at Payne Gap.  The Ride will start at 11:00am.  There will be a 50/50 split the pot, along with a poker run and prizes will be given away.  Hot dogs will be served at the end of the ride.  For more info contact Roy "Moose" Williams at 634-5236 or Alberta Perry at 855-7962.

National Black Lung Association Meeting September 27

The National Black Lung Association will have a meeting on Tuesday, September 27, at 2 p.m. at the Letcher County Extension Office located.  Staff members of the Respiratory Clinics of Eastern Kentucky and local attorneys who assist with federal black lung claims will be at the meeting to provide information and answer questions.  All retired and active miners, widows, spouses and others who are interested are invited.  For more information, contact Anthony Warlick at (606) 633-4871.

Hemphill Baptist Church Homecoming Service September 25

Hemphill Baptist Church at Jackhorn will have a Homecoming Service on Sunday September 25th at 10:00am with special singing by The Fowlers.  Pastor Danny Hurst and the church welcomes everyone. 

Letcher County Saving Grace Homeless Shelter NOW OPEN!

The Letcher County Saving Grace Homeless Shelter is now officially open! They have established a 6 bed facility at Goose Creek in Neon. This is a partnership with the Letcher County Sheriff's Office and if you need info or know of someone homeless and in need call the sheriff's department at 633-2293.  If anyone needs volunteer or donation information call Diane Watts at 589-5976.
