Roy Crawford Memorial Scholarships

Elkhorn-Hazard Coal Land, LLC is now accepting applications for the Roy Crawford Memorial Scholarships to be awarded in the fall semester of 2014.  There will be 3 scholarships of $500.00 each awarded to college students.  All applicants must be residents of Letcher County, plan to work in Eastern KY upon graduation and plan to to enroll in a college this fall.  Applications must be submitted by 5:00pm Friday August 8, 2014 and can be picked up at the Crawford Engineering Office at Whitco.  For more info call 633-2226.

Letcher County Central Camps in July

Letcher County Central High School will be hosting a number of camps during the month of July.  

Cheer Camp – July 14-17 – 9:00a.m. until noon.  Open to those who are 3 years of age thru 8th grade. Cost is $50.00.  If more than 2 campers are from the same family, the cost will be $40 per camper.  Concessions and extra cheer items will also be for sale.  Registration will be July 14th at 8:30 a.m.  Cheer Coach is Donna Perkins.

Volleyball Camp – July 14-17 – Noon until 3:00pm.  This camp is open to girls in fourth thru 8th grade.  Cost is $30 per camper.  Volleyball Coach is Betty V. Caudill

Dance Camp – July 21-24 – 9:00 a.m. until noon.  Open to those who are 3 years of age thru 8th grade.  Cost is $50 per camper.  Registration will be July 21st at 8:30 a.m.  Dance Coaches are Brandon Garrett and Brenda Adams

Band Camp – July 21- August 1.  This is for all current high school band students.  Please contact Band Director, Jason Griffith for details.

Free breakfast and lunch will be served each day of camps thru the Summer Feeding Program.

Letcher County Farmer's Swap and Trade Days

Introducing Letcher County Farmer's Swap and Trade Days to be held the 1st and 3rd Saturday's of every month May through September at the Letcher County Extension Office just off the Whitesburg bypass and Stone Avenue.  You are welcome to bring anything agriculture related to buy, swap and sell but no yard sale items will be allowed.  You can bring animals such as goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, geese, calves, quail chicks, laying hens, guineas, turkeys, sheep, eggs, trees, shrubs, country farm supplies, vegetable plants, buiding supplies and bee supplies.  Bring your own canopy and chairs.  Call Shad Baker or Crystal Sparks at the Extension Office3 633-2362 for more information. 

Carcassone Square Dance 2014

The Carcassone Community Center will have their famous square dance the 2nd Saturday of April, May, July, August, September and November.  It's the longest running square dance in Kentucky celebrating 45 years in 2014.  The square dance will feature Lee Sexton on old time banjo and calling by Erin Cokonougher-Stidham.  The doors open at 6:00pm with dancing from 7:00pm-9:00pm but come early.  There is a playground next door plus food and refreshments will be served.   Admission is $5.00 adults, $3.00 children and under 5 gets in free.  Everyone is invited and for more info call 633-7958.
