Hillbilly Days is less than 24 hours away and downtown Pikeville is busy as city officials get everything ready to go.
This is the 42nd year for the festival and organizers are excited about some new things happening.
They said Friday morning at 11 Pikeville’s Mayor will do the honors of putting the pig inside the area where they are hosting the pig drop.
This is the first year to have the mayor’s involvement in the pig drop and something they plan to make a tradition.
“And it’s ten foot by ten foot with 100 one foot squares in this little corral and we drop a pig in this little square, this corral and if it poops on your square you can win 1,000 dollars,” said Jimmy Kinney, Chairman of Hillbilly Christmas in July.
There will be no parking in downtown Pikeville beginning at 5 pm Wednesday.
“We’re asking everyone to have their cars off the streets of downtown in the festival area because we will be bringing the vendors in,” said Paul Maynard, Director of Pikeville Public Safety.
Maynard recommends anyone attending the festival to take a picture of where you parked so you can find your way back and hide valuable items left inside your car.
