Congratulations to the girls mountain region high school basketball champions for 2017-18. They are Harlan County(13th), Knott County Central(14th) and Johnson Central(15th).
Harlan County beat North Laurel 78-51 to win the 13th Region, Knott County Central beat Hazard 48-45 to win the 14th Region and Johnson Central beat Pikeville 56-51 to win the 15th Region.
Good luck to all 3 teams at this week’s KHSAA Sweet 16 State Tournament starting Wednesday at BB & T Arena in Northern KY.
The boys 14th Region semi-finals will be tonight with Cordia taking on Estill County at 6 and Knott County Central facing Perry County Central around 8. The championship game will be Tuesday at 7…..all at Perry County Central.
Saturday’s boys 13th Region semi-finals saw Corbin beat Knox Central 75-60 and South Laurel beat North Laurel 62-57. The boys 13th Region championship game will be played tonight at 7 at the Arena in Corbin as Corbin takes on South Laurel.
The boys 15th Region Tournament semi-finals will be played tonight at the Expo Center in Pikeville as Belfry takes on Johnson Central and Pikeville will play Paintsville. The boys 15th region championship game is Tuesday.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 17 points and dished out four assists, but No. 23 Kentucky lost at Florida 80-67 on Saturday in Gainesville.
Kentucky finishes the regular seaon at 21-10 overall and 10-8 in the SEC.
The Cats will now be the No. 4 seed in the annual SEC Tournament when action begins Wednesday in St. Louis. The Wildcats, who earned the coveted double bye , will play the winner of No. 5 Missouri and No. 12 Georgia/No. 13 Vanderbilt on Friday in St. Louis at approximately 3:25 p.m. ET in the quarterfinals.
